Oddballs Season 1 Episode 11 recap – James’ Day Off

Max decides to pay a visit to a very exhausted and stressed James. Fearing he’s a zombie, Max prepares to attack using a fireplace poker.

James reveals he is not a zombie. Unfortunately, school has been driving him crazy.

Max suggests that James take a day off and relax for once. The following day James wakes up late for school.

As he’s packing his backpack, he notices his parents leave without him. His frustration quickly changes when he realizes he can just stay home from school.

He decides to enjoy his day at home, doing all the things he doesn’t normally do. However, as he is about to begin by playing video games uninterrupted, the doorbell rings.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 11 recap – Mr. Sellers

Mr. Sellers, a home security system salesman, arrives. James is uninterested but that doesn’t sway Mr. Sellers.

He interrupts and bothers James every chance he gets hoping to change his mind. Every time James dodges him, he uses a subject he has learned in school.

This frustrates James even more as the last thing he wants to do on his day off is learn. Finally, he decides to give in and buy the home security system.

Upon signing the contract James tries to set the alarm so that Mr. Sellers will be attacked. However, the security system only responds to French.

James speaks French and is able to set the alarm and keep Mr. Sellers out.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 11 recap – Victory

You’d think this would be the end of Mr. Sellers but unfortunately James did not read the fine print. If the customer doesn’t pay for the home security system, Mr. Sellers takes over the home, thus making it his.

James attacks the video cameras with anything he can find and finally defeats Mr. Sellers with the fireplace poker. Moments later James’ parents return home to find the place completely destroyed.

James explains what happens, accusing them of not bringing him to school. The plot twist of the episode is that it is Saturday.

There is no school.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 11 review

This is probably my second favorite episode of season 1. There is one episode left to watch and recap but this one really entertained me.

I could sort of gauge from the title screen art that a salesman of some kind would be arriving. But I was not expecting the literal inhuman, soulless, nearly unstoppable being that is Mr. Sellers.

Truthfully, this episode could have taken a horror movie turn like episode 3. The second Mr. Sellers arrived I knew this was going to be good.

Well, good in terms of an episode, bad for James who just wanted a day off. We’ve all dealt with pushy salesmen and saleswomen before, but thankfully none of the level that is Mr. Sellers.

If a season 2 is in store for Oddballs, I’d love to see Mr. Sellers return unexpectedly. He may be a more powerful foe than Smooth Jason.

The plot twist was perfect! Ironically, if James had a smart phone all of this could have been avoided.

But like the film Home Alone that this episode was probably inspired by, cell phones aren’t around. James had to use his brain to stop the salesman.

Although next time James, don’t answer the door to anyone you don’t recognize.
