Disney Plus’s Zootopia+ season 1 delivered with spectacular episodes 1 and 2. But how will episodes three and four fair?

In episode three we see the return of Duke Weaselton. Upon his release, he ponders his life up until that point and how he should move forward.

Episode 4 brings us to Fru Fru’s wedding day where her father reminisces about the importance of family. Without further delay, let’s begin!

Zootopia+ Season 1 Episode 3 recap – Duke: The Musical

As mentioned above, Duke Weaselton is released from the police station where he becomes the mockery of Zootopia. Feeling down, he wonders where his life went wrong, musical style.

Duke sings one song the entire episode and it is quite catchy. As he almost instinctually steals a wallet full of money from a slow moving, elderly female goat, he begins to sing about starting over.

However, his idea of starting over is literally about starting new cons, whether that be selling junk cars, pretending to be a lawyer, or becoming a fake surgeon to sell his patients’ organs. He is obsessed with all the potential he still has while fantasizing about all the money he will be making.

But then he has a sudden moment of reflection where he debates returning the wallet. He decides to return it to the elderly female goat, sadly, in the street.

As she is about to take her wallet back a truck hits her. The truck happens to be carrying bags and bags of money.

The goat is thankfully unharmed, but Duke decides to steal a bag of money with the police following behind.

Zootopia+ Season 1 Episode 4 recap – The Godfather of the Bride

Zootopia+
The Godfather of the Bride – “Zootopia+” heads back to the fast-paced mammal metropolis of Zootopia in a short-form series that dives deeper into the lives of some of the Oscar®-winning feature film’s most intriguing characters, including a tale about a powerful arctic shrew known as Mr. Big. The episode “The Godfather of the Bride,” goes back in time to his days as Mr. Small, who discovers the important of friends, family and community after immigrating to Zootopia alongside his beloved mother. Fru Fru’s wedding reminds her father, inspired by Marlon Brando’s Don Vito Corleone from The Godfather film franchise, the importance of family. He remembers coming to Zootopia as a child with his grandmother.

Considering how tiny shrews are in comparison to the big city, they struggled but found their footing when his grandma opens a small bakery. He takes the role of delivery boy, delivering the baked goods across the city on a tiny tricycle.

However, he catches the attention of dangerous gangster folk, even though he has a polar bear friend to help. He decides to stand as tall as he can and ices the moose gangster.

From there, he befriends more of the polar bears who would later be his and his family’s bodyguards. Grandma’s bakery takes off and the community grows because of it.

Sure enough, his bravery as a child has led to him founding Rodentia. Even after all these years, he remembers and loves his grandmother very much.

He is thankful for the family he has and proud that his daughter is now a married woman. However, if her husband hurts her in any way, he’ll be iced.

Zootopia+ Season 1 Episodes 3 and 4 review

I’ll be the first to say that I dislike musical episodes. However, in the case of Zootopia+ I loved it because it makes sense.

This is, in simplest terms, a Disney show. Singing, dancing, even if it comes completely out of nowhere will always make sense.

Having a musical themed episode on a regular television show, makes no sense to me and I try to avoid them at all costs. Duke’s song was catchy, funny and made me wonder if he was going to make a positive change.

Of course, by the end of the song, he doesn’t. The story of how Fru Fru’s father came to Zootopia and how he founded Rodentia was pure gold!

It was just as funny, if not more so than episode 2, while also hitting home the message of how important family is. Family has been Disney’s message from the beginning, as nearly every character in creation has either come from or struggles to deal with their family.

Some venture to find their family while others create their own. At the end of the day it’s a beautiful message that I will never tire of hearing.
