Top 5 Predictions before The Mandalorian season 3 Premieres
For numerous reasons, when it comes to the Star Wars universe, it is very hard to predict what will happen next. Thanks to the devious Sith, elusive space pirates, and whatever Kathleen Kennedy does next, trying to predict what will come next in The Mandalorian season 3 is no easy task.
The initial Disney+ series premiered all those years ago with the big twist that was The Child, and audiences have not been able to rest. Even familiar faces like Boba Fett, Bo-Katan, Cad Bane, Ahsoka Tano, and even Luke Skywalker showed up to shock audiences.
Ahead of the March 1st premiere date, let’s try and predict what will take place over the coming episodes within The Mandalorian season 3.
More depth is given to Moff Gideon
Something that makes a good story of good versus evil, is having a compelling evil character. While “compelling” is second nature for the incredibly talented Giancarlo Esposito, his villainous Moff Gideon is lacking that depth right now.
Little by little, more characterization has been given to this dastardly antagonist, but there is still a lot to learn. His presence has been felt since the pilot episode when Gideon was the one who entrusted The Client to put in a plan to retrieve Grogu all those moons ago.
Audiences know Gideon is a threat, due in large part to his tenure at the Imperial Security Bureau, but hopefully, we will learn more throughout the coming episodes.
Less clear fan service in The Mandalorian season 3
The first season of The Mandalorian was a brilliant tale of a space western told over eight episodes. There were very few mentions of “Jedi” and “Skywalker” which was refreshing to move on from the major stories within the galaxy far, far away.
However, while it was in no way a step down in quality, the second season did not follow this same game plan. Inclusions of Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano were done so they could spin off into their respective series, but it is hard to deny how different the feel of the show was with these additions.
The worst culprit of fan service was the deep-faked Luke Skywalker who looked as bad as it was a shock. There is no denying fan service is going to happen, however, there should be a more subtle and nuanced way to tell the story in The Mandalorian season 3.
Din Djarin becomes less zealous…
Initially, the titular bounty hunter was as straight as an arrow with his beliefs and life mission. By using his pain and trauma to fuel his profession, he was one of the best under Greef Karga’s supervision.
As Din Djarin has spent more time with Grogu and other Mandalorians, his beliefs have waivered.
This wavering was also exacerbated when Djarin met with the Bo-Katan Kryze, Koska Reeves, and Axe Woves. He learned that there were Mandalorians who removed their helmet and that he might be a part of a zealous cult.
Understandably, this shook Din Djarin to his core. With the Mandalorian and The Child returning to Mandalore, it is looking like Djarin will have to choose how he wants to live his life moving forward.
But earns a stronger claim to the Dark Saber in The Mandalorian season 3
On top of the Mandalorian’s companionship with The Child being a main focus, Din Djarin’s claim to the Dark Saber has risen in importance. In the season 2 finale, audiences witnessed Djarin disarm the Dark Saber-wielding Moff Gideon and therefore earn a claim to the mystical weapon.
Someone who was not so happy about that was Bo-Katan, since she strongly desires to wield the Dark Saber again and rule Mandalore. This story was built upon in episode five when audiences saw the Mandalorian defeat Paz Vizsla to earn a stronger claim to the weapon, but his betrayal by removing his helmet is something that looms over him.
Over the coming episodes, expect the Dark Saber to continue playing an important role in Djarin’s story.
Grogu shows more examples of the dark side of the Force
Although Grogu is 50 years old, he is still an infant by his mysterious species’ standards. This means The Child is still extremely impressionable to the sights and people around him.
While this would not be an issue if Grogu continued with his training with Master Skywalker, Din Djarin has to be careful with how he raises him.
Grogu has already been seen using a force choke on Cara Dune and killing a man for trying to steal from Din Djarin. These have been admirable acts from The Child since they were done to protect his favorite Mandalorian, but that does not take away how it goes against the Jedi code.
Everything the Jedi is as a people, comes down to putting purpose before feelings. While Grogu keeps putting his feelings first, it could be a slippery slope that Din Djarin will have to keep an eye on moving forward in The Mandalorian season 3.
