Freeridge: What there is to know about the On My Block spinoff

One of Netflix’s most anticipated series, Freeridge, is set to debut in early 2023. Freeridge is about sibling rivals Gloria and Ines and their friends, Demi and Cameron, who have unleashed a curse bringing dark misfortune into their lives.

The series is a spinoff of the mega-popular original Netflix series, On My Block, which premiered in early 2018 and ended in late 2021. On My Block had been a staple in the Netflix home for 4 years, so it’s understandable that fans were disappointed to see it come to an end.

But fans were delighted to know about the new spinoff that was greenlit shortly after the season 4 premiere. Toward the end of the season finale of On My Block season 4, we got to sneak a peek at the new cast of Freeridge.

The old gang takes a quick glance at four, young kids peeking at them from afar with smiles. This hints at the takeover of a new core four and how the audience will now be following them from now on, in the quaint and (sometimes) rough Freeridge, California.

Who’s going to be our new core four in Freeridge?

On My Block followed characters Cesar, Monse, Ruby, and Jamal for all four seasons as the main core four. While that beloved crew’s story has come to an end, Netflix promises that this new group is going to be just as loved.

According to Netflix’s Tudum first look, Keyla Monterroso Mejia will be playing the role of Gloria, Bryana Salaz as Ines, Tenzing Norgay Trainor as Cam, and Ciara Riley Wilson as Demi. Reportedly, some of the original cast is also set to reprise their roles in the new series!

Paula Garcés and Eric Gutierrez will be reprising their roles as Genry and Reuben Martinez, Eme Ikwuakor and Raushanah Simmons as Dwayne Turner and Mrs. Turner, and Peggy Blow is also set to be in it, though her role is not yet known. Also, Netflix has made sure to not leave out any colorful supporting characters like Jasmine and Oscar from the original series.

Netflix reports that Freeridge has equally as exciting and fun characters to add some spice into the mix. Freeridge season 1 will be arriving on February 2, 2023, comprised of eight episodes each a half-hour long.
