Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 2, episode 12 recap
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 2 ended with a pretty interesting cliffhanger. Po and his friends now possess all four Tianshang weapons.
Well, three and a half, as the second storm wheel is all the way in England. In honor of the Lunar New Year, this special episode focuses on the power of luck and good company, through a very unique tale.
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 12 recap – Down on their luck
The episode begins with the group traveling on the boat to England. Unfortunately, the wind has died down and there seems to be no food left.
Po remembers a spare dumpling he’d be saving, but it slips from his hands and lands in the water. When the rest of the group finds out, they immediately want to harm him, until Mr. Ping spots the moon.
It is the beginning of the Lunar New Year, which means a lot of celebrations will be taking place back home in China. Akna, Rukmini and Wandering Blade are unfamiliar with such celebrations and traditions.
This provides Po the perfect opportunity to tell the group a story.
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 12 recap – The Story
The story begins with lucky hunters who have protected China from all kinds of evil, until one day they disappeared. Po’s character is basically a wannabe lucky hunter, arriving to a town full of very mean citizens.
After he’s denied a place to stay, he wanders into Mr. Ping’s restaurant hoping to eat. After essentially begging him, Mr. Ping allows Po to eat quickly but expects the bill to be paid.
Po has no money but offers his calling card which is a misprint. As night falls, a giant monster arrives with the head of a lion and body of a dragon.
As it wrecks havoc on the town, Wandering Blade’s character appears hoping to defeat him. Po intervenes hoping to help but instead the monster practically burns everything to the ground and leaves.
The monster has been attacking the town every night for several days. Due to his persistent return, year after year citizens leave before nightfall and come back home to find it nearly in ruins.
Wandering Blade’s brother was the previous protector of the town but was presumed dead upon never returning from a fight with the monster. Therefore, Wandering Blade has made it her mission to stop the monster.
Po convinces Wandering Blade to allow him to help but the following night the monster returns and leaves even more wreckage. Po does notice that the monster seems to be fearful of fireworks but Wandering Blade won’t listen.
Enraged the town demands Wandering Blade and Po to leave. When they part ways, Po finds Mr. Ping, Akna and Rukmini camping out and enjoying a meal together.
Talking amongst them, Po learns that the only way the monster will be defeated is if the entire town comes together. Po gives a rallying speech which brings everyone together, including Wandering Blade.
They set up fireworks and wait until nightfall. After a few mishaps and fight sequences, the monster becomes terrified by all the fireworks and flees.
The town had been saved in more ways than one, but what’s next for the hunter?
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 12 recap – Happy Ending
Po ends the story there, unsure himself where his own journey will be taking them. But as luck would have it, Mr. Ping found some spare pieces of candy for everyone to eat.
It’s not much but the little bit of luck is a good sign. More luck follows as the wind picks up and the boat is able to move once again.
The group hopes the new year will bring them more luck and good fortune as the episode comes to a close.
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 12 review
Honestly, this was my favorite episode of the entire season for one reason. It had nothing to do with the main plot.
For two seasons, finding the Tianshang weapons has been the focus. The plot isn’t bad but by the end of the second season, it feels very dragged out.
It’s becoming a little old at this point, which is why I am hoping that either; the third season will be the last season of this show, or the third season will end the Tianshang weapon arc and move on to something else.
The entire story of this episode was fun, engaging and placed the characters we know like the back of our hands at this point, in a somewhat different setting. Case in point, it felt refreshing!
I’d love to see more of this content from the Kung Fu Panda franchise! But most of all I’d like to see the Tianshang weapon story end next season, if there is another season on the horizon.
