Is Matthew McConaughey joining the ranks of Kevin Costner in the Yellowstone franchise? Or will they part ways altogether?
If Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren weren’t big enough names to add to Taylor Sheridan’s universe, another big one could be coming in Matthew McConaughey. Nothing has been confirmed, but reps for Paramount Network told People magazine that having both stars in the Yellowstone family would be the dream.
"“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built.”"
Though the McConaughey news is simply speculation and rumor, Paramount would love to have Kevin Costner stay on board for years to come. They went on to state, “Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”
Who wouldn’t? He is a man who would fit into a western role perfectly.
Would Matthew McConaughey fit into the Yellowstone franchise?
He’s a true southerner from Uvalde, Texas. This is an actor and producer who knows how to achieve fame and success in this industry.
Not only that but he is a professor of practice for the Department of Radio-Television-Film at the Moody College of Communication in UT-Austin. You can also find him at many games cheering on his Longhorns.
According to reports, Kevin Costner wants to slow his work down even more. He only wanted to spend a week shooting the remainder of the season for Yellowstone and 65 days for the entire season.
Which seems impractical. Especially with a show that surrounds itself around the patriarch of the family.
A lot of work goes into filming a show such as Yellowstone, that’s not including just the acting and lines. However, Paramount is very adamant that they want him in the universe for years to come.
Kevin Costner has earned the right to be worked around within reason. He just brought home a Golden Globe for his performance as the legendary John Dutton.
Fans have known that Yellowstone won’t last forever. Could the end be nearing if negotiations and demands are not met?
Deadline reported that the end of the main show Yellowstone could be looming near. Though Taylor Sheridan will never give an exact date.
He believes it will take as much time as needed to tell the story. But he’s never wanted this series to take a decade.
You want to tell the story and a great one, instead of running in circles like a lot of shows do. Luckily for Taylor Sheridan, he doesn’t have to hold onto things.
Everything is man does is great. With the spin-offs of 1883 and 1923, this man’s method of success is so high it feels there’s nothing he can’t do wrong.
Adding the likes of Matthew McConaughey is a blueprint for a gold mine. Paramount and Sheridan are in talks about extending the universe to a series that would star the Texas hunk, into a new Dutton era.
Potentially, it could mean the ones we already know and love at Yellowstone could move over to this new spinoff after the series comes to a close. We know the ties to the 6666 ranch in Texas.
Matthew would fit into that story like a glove. Though we already know that the 6666 spinoff is in the works as well.
What Matthew could be doing could be something entirely different and greater. Kevin Costner’s starring and directing in another western for Warner Brothers and New Line called Horizon.
It’s hard to let go of the success Yellowstone has had, but it’s exciting to look forward to what’s to come in the future. Everyone believes in Taylor Sheridan, and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!
