The Walking Dead: Dead City premiere date is finally here!
Thank you, WonderCon! The first of many TWDU spinoffs to air, The Walking Dead: Dead City, officially has a premiere date!
Mark your calendars for June 18! The Negan and Maggie tale of kidnapping, grotesque walkers, and ziplining in New York City will be airing at 10PM EST on AMC and AMC+.
WonderCon, which took place over the weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, had a spectacular TWD: Dead City panel featuring Lauren Cohan, Gaius Charles, and Eli Jorne. During the panel, some interesting tidbits were revealed, including Jorne discussing Maggie and Negan and their often conflicting, dramatic, and never-ending cycle of hate and acceptance.
"“It’s the next chapter in the story of Maggie and Negan, and so in that sense, it’s a lot of grief, trauma, and loss on both sides and how do you navigate that? How does Maggie look in Negan’s face every day and remember what he did to the love of her life? That’s still a huge part of the show.” -Eli Jorne"
What is Maggie and Negan’s history before The Walking Dead: Dead City?
As fans of The Walking Dead know, Negan was the man responsible for killing Maggie’s husband Glenn while she was pregnant with their child Hershel Jr. (Negan was unaware Maggie was pregnant).
The two didn’t truly have to face each other again until the war concluded and Negan was imprisoned. Maggie leaves but returns to the show several years later to find that Negan is essentially a free man.
The conflict between the two, which was mostly Maggie’s refusal to forgive and move on, continued, until they came to terms with the past and how they both have changed. By the series finale, Negan leaves without so much as a goodbye to be with his pregnant wife and Maggie continues her life at the newly repaired Hilltop.
Fans have been theorizing how the two meet again, which seems to coincide with Hershel Jr. getting kidnapped, but we don’t know the status of Negan’s wife and child. Perhaps we’ll learn more once the official trailer is released.
