The White Lotus stars bag MTV Movie & TV Awards nominations

Ah, the golden popcorn; the MTV Movie & TV Awards is one of the few bodies that still gives out quirky honors for categories like Best Kiss and Best Fight. It’s no surprise that Mike White’s black comedy series The White Lotus is in the running for several of them.

HBO’s original production about American tourists having the best-worst vacation abroad, has garnered four nominations, just behind leaders of the pack of TV shows like The Last of Us and Stranger Things. Aside from Best Show, Jennifer Coolidge and Aubrey Plaza are in the running, along with Simona Tabasco and Beatrice Granno, in three different categories.

While Plaza is nominated for Best Performance in a show, notably highlighted this year with an all-female nominees list, Coolidge is nominated for Most Frightened Performance for her ludicrous terror moments as the naïvely rich American heiress, Tanya McQuoid.

Arguably the most interesting nomination for The White Lotus falls on the beautiful shoulders of Tabasco and Granno for Best Duo. They play the Sicilian femme fatale locals Mia and Lucia, respectively, who prey on the American tourists of the five-star hotel with their girlfriend experience services.

Who are The White Lotus’ MTV Movie & TV Awards competition?

They’re competing alongside other very cool dynamic twosomes like The Last of Us’ Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, and Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega and Thing. Smart money would be on Wednesday and her quirky, horrific pet hand.

But for The White Lotus fans, it’s MTV recognizing the gestalt of Lucia and Mia’s formidable girl power that’s already a big win.

Tabasco and Granno are best friends in real life and arguably the breakout stars on the second season of White’s series. A flood of opportunities got fielded their way after the season ended.

They were even featured as cover models for Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS’ lingerie line from January 26, 2023. Will Lucia and Mia triumph over Joel and Ellie to win the golden popcorn?
