One of the best parts about the MCU TV shows, that have been premiering on Disney+, is that they have allowed Marvel to experiment with several different genres of television. WandaVision got to play with the sitcom genre, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law got to be a legal comedy and The Falcon and Winter Soldier was a political thriller.

Now, it seems like MCU is branching out into a new genre with an upcoming musical.

Casting a Broadway actress

The upcoming series Agatha: Coven of Chaos will co-star actress Patti LuPone, who is best known for her work in Musical Theater. LuPone has been nominated for a Tony for eight different musicals in her career and won three of those nominations.

So, it’s no surprise that when she was asked about singing in her new role, she confirmed that there would be musical numbers in Agatha, and that she would be taking part in the singing for the series. Agatha first appeared in WandaVision, as the neighbor of Wanda and Vision in their ideal sitcom town, who ended up being a much more powerful force than she initially let on.

Agatha was a breakout hit character for the show. Marvel quickly announced that they would be expanding her role, with a series that focused on the character.

Not the first time the MCU has done a musical…

While we don’t know how many songs there will be in the series, or exactly how that will impact the story, in a way, it’s not that surprising that the MCU is venturing further into musical territory. The song, “Agatha All Along”, was one of the most memorable moments in WandaVision, and even won an Emmy for original song.

In another Marvel series Hawkeye, fans got a glimpse of a musical performance of Rodgers: The Musical, an in-universe musical telling of Captain America’s life story. So more musical numbers in upcoming Marvel projects isn’t that crazy of an idea.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos also seems to be the perfect place for the MCU to experiment with more musical numbers. Not only is the series centered around Agatha, who was the topic of the big musical moment from WandaVision, but the songs in the upcoming series are being composed by Kristen and Robert Lopez.

The duo wrote all of the different intro theme songs for each episode of WandaVision. Kristen and Robert Lopez are also the composers behind other famous musicals, most notably Frozen, winning an Oscar for “Let it Go” back in 2013.
