The latest episode of Gotham Knights opens with an art thief repelling into a museum and taking a painting off of the wall. He then clearly has enough time to get away, but he waits around until the security guards show up.

He beats up all the security guards and then leaves the scene of the crime.

Gotham Knights season 1, episode 7 recap – Stealing art, like heroes do

The next day the Gotham Knights learn about the heist while they’re watching Exposition News on TV. They decide that art theft isn’t worth risking their necks.

Also, apparently, the museum was actually City Hall, and in Gotham City, million-dollar paintings are just hung up all over City Hall. Just as the Gotham Knights are about to walk away from the plot of the episode, they get dragged back in by discovering that all of the stolen paintings were owned by Bruce Wayne’s great-great-grandfather at the time of his death.

The group splits up with the bulk of the kids going off to catch an art thief, while Duela and Carrie set out to find out more about the Talon. The Gotham Knights wait outside the location of another painting owned by the elder Wayne and sure enough the art thief comes along.

And then OH MY GOODNESS, THEY PUT ON MASKS!!! I can’t believe it!

I guess they actually are trying to get better at this whole crime fighting thing! It’s just ski masks but they’re actually trying to conceal their identities for once.

It’s a very big moment for the show. Some gunfire is exchanged with the thief.

Harper is grazed, while the art thief ends up shooting themselves in the leg thanks to a well thrown batarang. Cullen and Turner unmask the thief to reveal a police officer who has the best record for putting away art thieves.

It turns out that she is being blackmailed into stealing the paintings and her family is being held captive. Turner and Cullen decide to help her steal the painting to save her family.

The Knights blow open the door with a bomb and then dash inside, grab the painting and get out in under a minute. They manage to avoid the security guards which is a good thing because the NEVER PUT THEIR MASKS BACK ON!

These guys just can’t get it together.

Gotham Knights season 1, episode 7 recap – Kidnapping an octogenarian seems like a good plan

As the art heist is happening, Duela decides to try and learn how a guy over a hundred years old is still cutting off heads on behalf of the Court. Her strategy for finding out more about the Talon is kidnapping his daughter, Eunice, who is an old woman in a nursing home.

Carrie is understandably not excited about the plan of kidnapping the elderly, but the strategy seems to work to some degree. They learn about a secret formula that The Court of Owls give to The Talon to keep him alive and also to rapidly heal any injuries he gets.

Eunice plays up being a frail old woman and convinces Carrie to get her a drink of water. Then, while Carrie is gone, she pulls out a secret knife located in one of her music boxes and attacks Duela.

Carrie returns just in time to save Duela from her nursing home attacker. As Eunice is subdued, the rest of the team returns, and they plan how to give The Court of Owls the painting they stole. Turner meets them at a drop point, explaining his presence as being a friend of the original art thief, who is dropping off the painting on her behalf.

The Court doesn’t care about that, given that as soon as they confirm the painting is real, they plan to kill the family members being held hostage, as well as Turner since he’s there. Fortunately, the Gotham Knights reveal that they still have Eunice as a hostage and use her as a bargaining chip to trade for their lives, as well as the lives of the hostages.

They get away, and the hostages reunite with the police officer who publicly, on television, thanks a group of teenage vigilantes for successfully stealing enough art to save her family, because that’s how crime fighting works in Gotham.

Gotham Knights season 1, episode 7 recap – Harvey also does stuff this episode

Meanwhile at the hospital, Lincoln Marsh is in a coma on account of the sword the Talon stabbed through him in the last episode. Harvey comes to check on him and runs into Rebecca, Lincoln’s wife who Harvey has a past with and is also having a current affair with during the blackout points in his memory.

She convinces him to come over to the house, because she’s been getting mysterious phone calls and is frightened. Harvey, against his better judgment, goes to the house.

He figures out the calls are likely coming from someone that Lincoln has been having an affair with. Harvey has the opportunity to act professional and instead chooses to have a drink with Rebecca, which leads to kissing, which then leads to sleeping together.

Of course, as soon as they’ve done that, the hospital calls to say that Lincoln is awake. As Harvey returns to the office, he’s confronted by Cressida, former employee of the Wayne family and current associate of The Court of Owls.

She wants protection from The Court in return for information about what their plans are. As Harvey ponders the offer, we see members of The Court setting all the paintings aflame, revealing something that looks like a mysterious map underneath, as the episode comes to a close.
