Jensen Ackles leads the Save The Winchesters campaign to keep the Supernatural Universe alive
By Shay McBryde
The long-awaited day finally arrived for The Winchesters when The CW officially pulled the plug on the Supernatural spinoff. With the long tenure that Supernatural had, it came as a bit of a shock to the cast, crew (Jensen Ackles), and fans alike.
The Winchesters came off to a bit of a slow start, but it really picked up in the last half of the season. It brought on some of the Supernatural fan favorites like Rowena (Ruthie Connell), who was a treat for fans.
Had The Winchesters been given a little more time to develop, I think we would have seen some great things. But it’s still not over yet.
Jensen Ackles is looking for help to save his show. Now fans around the world are making the campaign #SaveTheWinchesters blossom, in the hopes of finding a new home for the show.
While their days at The CW are over, there are hopes that another network or platform can pick up the show. The show is produced by Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel Ackles, along with Supernatural writer Robbie Thompson.
The prequel follows the story of young Mary and John in the 70’s, showing how they met and fell in love. The show was narrated by Jensen as Dean Winchester.
On one hand, the cancelation came as no surprise to some. The CW has been cancelling numerous big shows such as The Flash and Riverdale.
Most think that the network will not be lasting much longer. Certainly not by making moves like these.
Not to say The Winchesters didn’t have a few areas they could excel more in, but the show had a lot of potential. Supernatural fans are still very active and come in by huge numbers at all the conventions.
Dean was shown in the series finale and just having that potential alone would bring in a lot of excited fans back for next season. However, some people think adding him into the show is a little too much.
His goal after escaping from heaven is to reshape his family’s history, which is highly against the rules. But Dean has his own set of rules.
Not to mention the opportunity extended seasons give to characters like Gabriel, Rowena, Castiel, and so many other beloved characters, a chance to return to all their glory. I would, however, make the show not so predictable.
As much drama as they keep throwing John and Mary’s way, we all know they end up together and have a family. The storyline will have to be much stronger if they expect to keep this show on air.
Misha Collins took to Twitter to help save The Winchesters and help renew his new show Gotham Knights. It was double trouble for Jensen Ackles when his other hit show Big Sky, was cancelled by ABC.
This is another hit show that many were shocked to see cancelled. Supernatural’s own Richard Speight Jr. joined in the fight.
Already directing one episode of the new prequel and in my opinion, had the best directing job I saw from the series.
If you believe in The Winchesters, take to social media and join in the battle to #SaveTheWinchesters. Whether you are a fan of the old show, new, or of the actors involved, they need your help to win this fight so the show can get picked up and continue its beautiful stories of heroism, love, and family.
