5 of the Best Star Wars dads and father figures in the galaxy
A good father figure can make or break a person. While father figures, in reality, come in all shapes and sizes (and genders), this is especially true of Star Wars, which takes place a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
Within the world created by George Lucas, there are so many different kinds of Star Wars dads. The character type of a father figure being the catalyst for a young potential hero or villain is not a unique one to media.
However, there is no denying how often Lucas has engrained this trope within his beloved franchise. Here is a handful of characters who are the best to ever look after a child.
Star Wars Dads: Cliegg Lars
A man who did not have to do so much for other people but did them anyway. Cliegg was able to outsmart Watto so he could, “win” Shmi Skywalker and immediately free her from indentured servitude.
Unfortunately, this would be the downfall of both Shmi and Cliegg when Tusken Raiders took Shmi and would later kill her, leading to Cliegg dying of a broken heart. No way a major father figure to Anakin, there is no denying Cliegg’s good-hearted and soft nature.
Star Wars Dads: Galen Erso
One of the Star Wars dads who was killed right in front of his child, Galen Erso’s role in the eponymous wars played a big role in helping the Rebels. The designer of the wicked Death Star, Galen was taken away from his daughter, but he never forgot about her.
With his late wife and young daughter on his mind, Erso would be the one to place a weakness in the Empire’s massive planet-destroying weapon. It is kind of unfair how every other father has to compare gifts to what Jyn’s dad got her through.
Star Wars Dads: Uncle Owen
Not the father, but the father who stepped up, Uncle Owen is the most grounded character on this list. He is not involved in any intergalactic conflict; Owen Lars is simply just a moisture farmer looking after his innocent nephew.
He and his wife Beru were gracious to welcome their Luke into their home, but they do not want their nephew involved in the world his father was in. Although this would ultimately all be for naught, the effort and concern Owen puts in is heartwarming.
Star Wars Dads: Din Djarin
The most recently added of the Star Wars dads, Din Djarin had no intentions of becoming a father figure when audiences first met him. An incredibly skilled and emotionless bounty hunter, this all began melting away when he was assigned to hunt a baby.
Saving the baby from the other bounty hunters seeking him, was only the beginning for Din Djarin and Grogu. Since then, they have gone on countless adventures.
After Grogu helped Din regain Mandalore for the native people, the circle was completed when Djarin adopted The Child naming him Din Grogu.
Star Wars Dads: Bail Organa
Truly one of the most unsung heroes in the entire Rebel Alliance, Bail Organa was on the inside of the Empire, while secretly fighting against them. He did all of this, while also raising the daughter of the imperial tyrant’s right-hand man.
Not only did Bail raise a daughter, but he raised a princess, a general, a rebel leader, and an overall inspiration to numerous folks worldwide. There is a lot of credit that deserves to go to Leia herself, but the work Bail and his wife put in should not be overlooked.
