K-pop superstar Jennie Kim, who currently stars in HBO’s The Idol, under her acting moniker Jennie Ruby Jane, was helped off the stage at the concert of her girl group BLACKPINK on June 11. While HBO’s TV drama about fame and modern stardom is currently streaming on Max, Kim has been busy with the supergroup on their Born Pink worldwide tour.

According to reports, it seems the stress of such a relentless touring schedule has gotten the better of Kim’s health, when she had to be escorted off in the middle of the song “Lovesick Girls”, while on the Melbourne leg. To be fair, the quartet have been on the road since October 2022 and their fanbase, who call themselves Blinks, were sympathetic to Kim, seeing that she clearly wasn’t well.

The next day, Kim addressed what happened in an Instagram story that read: “Dear Melbourne Blinks. I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to finish the show on Sunday. I’m doing my best to recover atm. Your understanding and support [means] the world to me. Thank you to everyone who came to our Melbourne show. Love you, guys.”

Cross-referencing with fan footage from that Melbourne concert, it seems the Blinks were quite understanding and wished Kim the best in her recovery. They were even shouting, “we love you Jennie!” as she got off the stage.

YG Entertainment, the group’s management label who also handles other big names in K-pop like BigBang and BabyMonster, also released a statement on the night of the concert itself. Highlights of the message posted fan platform Weverse declared that Kim’s condition had been “deteriorating,” and although Kim wanted to push through with her performance, “medical advice on site” strongly advised against it.

On the HBO original The Idol, fans can watch Kim as a recurring character. She plays Dyanne, the talented lead dancer to pop superstar Jocelyn.

Co-creators Sam Levinson and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye loosely based their protagonist on real life embattled pop musicians like Britney Spears and Taylor Swift.
