One of the biggest questions fans had when The Walking Dead: Dead City premiered was, where is Annie? Annie for those who don’t know is Negan’s second wife.

No, she wasn’t one of his “wives” back when he ruled supreme at The Sanctuary. She was his actual, second wife, whom he met at some point, offscreen, during the final season of The Walking Dead.

By married we mean wedding bands, vows, and all. Not only that but when we last saw her, she was pregnant with his child!

And yes, none of Negan’s Sanctuary “wives” got pregnant. This reveal was met with mixed reactions but in the end, Negan was happily married with a child on the way.

The Walking Dead: Dead City finally reveals what happened to Negan’s wife Annie

Enter Dead City and Annie is nowhere to be seen. So, what happened?

Well, according to the man himself, in Dead City season 1 episode 3 “People Are a Resource”, Annie and their son Joshua are alive. Hopefully.

Negan and his family lived nearby New Babylon when Annie needed to go into town for supplies. When she didn’t return Negan went after her, discovering she had been beaten and assumably raped.

Enraged Negan found the men responsible and killed them, thus he’s a wanted man by New Babylon Marshal Perlie Armstrong. To prevent further harm from coming Annie’s way, she and Joshua went to Missouri, however Negan didn’t follow them.

He hasn’t spoken or seen them since, and he is understandably worried sick. The saddest part about this revelation is that for those who recall, Negan’s biggest rule was no rape.

He abhorred it and yet it happened to the one person he loves the absolute most (other than his first wife Lucille). This vulnerable confession to Maggie left her speechless.

Will Perlie come to learn the truth and stop his pursuit of Negan? Or will he simply not care as justice still needs to be served?

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1 episode 4 airs on July 9 on AMC.
