Sky and Peacock's The Day of the Jackal was one of the top shows of 2024. Eddie Redmayne's spy thriller was quickly renewed for season 2, but since then, there hasn't been a ton of news about the upcoming season until the last few months.

Now, we know a lot more about The Day of the Jackal season 2, and we've put together a roundup of all the big updates you probably missed while you've been living your life, trying to beat the heat, and probably watching the Targaryen dynasty fall apart in a brutal civil war.

We have some very good news to share about The Day of the Jackal season 2, so let's get into it!

The cast and crew wrapped filming on The Day of the Jackal season 2

Production on The Day of the Jackal season 2 started in February 2026, more than a year after the first season came to an end. We had a big break between filming season 1 and season 2. Now, we finally have some good news about production.

According to a report from Radio Times, Meghan Lyvers, the Director of Original Drama, UK&I at Sky, revealed filming officially wrapped on The Day of the Jackal season 2 in August. Now, the series is in the post-production phase.

This is obviously good news for fans of the series. The cast and crew wrapping means things are really picking up behind the scenes. We could see our first look at The Day of the Jackal season 2 from basically this moment forward.

The Day of the Jackal season 2 release window is confirmed for Spring 2027

Although production has wrapped on season 2, it doesn't mean that we'll be seeing the new season of The Day of the Jackal anytime soon. We do know the release window for the new season, though, and it's not this year.

During its annual Upfronts Presentation, NBCUniversal, which owns Peacock, revealed that The Day of the Jackal season 2 is slated for a spring 2027 release on Sky and Peacock.

That's still quite a large window. We could, technically, expect the season to premiere anytime from March all the way through June, but I have a feeling it will be sometime in April or May. That's just my gut feeling at this point.

Of course, it's disappointing that we are not going to see the season this year. There was a lot of hope that we could, in theory, see The Day of the Jackal season 2 premiere in November or December, but Peacock and Sky are going to take their time with this rollout.

There's no doubt that this is one of the most highly anticipated shows coming in 2027.

Matt Bomer, Pablo Schrieber, and Weruche Opia will star alongside Eddie Redmayne in The Day of the Jackal season 2

Of course, we've known since the end of season 1 that Redmayne will be back as the Jackal in season 2, but there have been a lot of question marks about the rest of the cast.

When production started in February, we learned that Pablo Schreiber and Weruche Opia would be starring alongside Redmayne in the new season, via Deadline.

Unfortunately, we have no idea which characters they'll be playing, whether they are the heroes or the villains, or what. We'll have to wait until much closer to the season until we find out that information.

In May, when the release window was confirmed, we also learned that Matt Bomer will also be starring in season 2. Deadline didn't share much information about the character, but they did report that he is the villain of this story.

Redmayne will have a notable adversary working against the Jackal in season 2, it sounds like!

Unfortunately, it's not been confirmed which stars of season 1 will be in The Day of the Jackal season 2, but it's reasonable to expect to see some of the stars of the first season return. I'm thinking we could see Úrsula Corberó, who plays the Jackal's wife; Eleanor Matsuura, who plays Zina, the fixer; and Charles Dance, who plays Timothy Winthrop, the big villain of the season.

Those are the three big updates we have about The Day of the Jackal season 2! Filming has wrapped. There's a new cast, including Matt Bomer as the new villain. Last but not least, we're going to be waiting until the spring of 2027 before the new season premieres.
