Everyone’s favorite social-status-crossed lovers will be back this year for more school drama, family feuds, and broken hearts. James and Ruby’s tumultuous love story is going to get even more complicated with Ruby now officially expelled from the school on behalf of Mr. Beaufort.
The coming-of-age romance has been one of Prime Video’s crown jewels and most-streamed international series. However, 2026 will mark the end of the thrilling romance between Ruby and James, as Prime Video confirmed that Maxton Hall season 3 will deliver the highly anticipated conclusion.
Maxton Hall season 3 is eyeing a winter release
The third and final season of Maxton Hall: The World Between Us will air on December 9, 2026, on Prime Video. The six-episode finale season will likely pick up where season 2 left off, with Ruby and James possibly separated once more. The season will be binge-dropped in more than 240 countries, with new and returning faces ready to face their characters’ fates.
Based on Mona Kasten’s book trilogy, the German-language series will likely follow the events of the third book, Save Us. Featuring Harriet Herbig-Matten’s Ruby Bell and Damian Hardung’s James Beaufort, the teaser trailer for Maxton Hall season 3 shows the aftermath of the trap set by James’s father.
Other returning characters include Eidin Jalali as Graham, Fedja van Huet as Mortimer, Sonja Weißer as Lydia, Ben Felipe as Cyril, Runa Greiner as Ember, Govinda Gabriel as Kesh, Frederic Balonier as Kieran, Justus Riesner as Alistair, Dagny Dewath as Ophelia, and Eli Riccardi as Elaine. Martin Schreier will lead the series as director, while Markus Brunnemann and Ceylan Yildirim will serve as executive producers.
Maxton Hall season 3 will mark the end of its era
At the end of Maxton Hall season 2, we saw Ruby and James decide to be together despite everyone working against them, especially Mr. Beaufort. He does everything from insulting Ruby to threatening her if she didn’t stop dating James, but in the season finale, he pulled the last straw. Mortimer hacked into his son’s phone and recovered a photo of Ruby and Graham that James had once taken as revenge.
He uses the photo to accuse Ruby and Graham of having an inappropriate relationship, resulting in Graham going to jail and Ruby being expelled from the school. Doing good by his word, Mortimer exacts a cruel revenge on Ruby by shattering her dreams and taking away her future at Oxford. However, that’s not even the worst part.
Unfortunately, it will not go well when Ruby finds out that the photo was taken and kept by James, the one person she thought was always by her side. Maxton Hall season 3 will test family bonds, friendship, and love in ways that will redefine Ruby and James’s lives forever. The truth will either set them free or separate them for good.
Then there’s the case of the Beaufort siblings trying to get away from their controlling father’s grip. By season 2, he has taken control of everything from their lives to the family business, leaving the siblings vulnerable in their quest for independence. Season 3 will also take a deeper dive into the Beaufort family dynamics, especially with Ophelia in the picture, who seems to be carrying some sort of Beaufort family secret.
Lydia’s storyline has also taken a drastic turn after Graham’s arrest. She and Graham decided to live their lives away from her family's pressures and drama when she chose to keep her baby. Unfortunately, with Graham in serious trouble, Lydia is left hanging and at the mercy of her father. Maxton Hall season 3 will be a crucial time for her character arc as well because her decisions can affect the entire Beaufort legacy.
Although we can expect a happy ending of sorts and we will be cheering for Ruby and James no matter what, there’s no doubt Maxton Hall season will not be easy on our hearts. There will be tears, broken hearts, lessons to learn, and hard decisions to make in the face of adversity. Until December 9, you can relive the magic of Maxton Hall seasons 1 and 2, available on Prime Video.
