It’s do-or-die for Neagley and the team because they are running out of time before they lose Rawlings and Echo Canyon for good. In episode 7, Neagley learns that Rawlings is planning to pull another ‘Hamilton,’ meaning he’ll make it as if Echo Canyon never existed and will start somewhere again.
With Keno trapped in the underground facility and Hudson on the clock for Murphy’s murder, it’s now or never for the gang. They know no one will touch Rawlings without evidence, and even if they manage to collect some, he’ll have an army of lawyers ready to protect him.
They can’t go to the cops because they don’t know who is on their side, and they can’t go to the feds because they’ll take up too much time. Therefore, the best course of action is to take things into their own hands. They’ll be outgunned and outnumbered, but if they are smart, they just might come out of it alive.
Neagley and team prepare for a fight
Neagley, Hudson, and Renee gear up to take the fight straight to Echo Canyon. They gather as much ammo as they can and hope they can reach Keno and the others in time. As they wait for gas, Hudson apologizes to Neagley for sending her to Tracy, but he didn’t do it to make her feel guilty for her condition. He says he just had a bad day and didn’t know what he was doing.
However, since they are essentially walking into a death trap, he confesses that he likes her and doesn’t want anything to happen to her. Although there’s a speck of softness in Neagley’s expression, she gently shuts down Hudson, saying it’s not the right time to talk about a crush. However, when they get in the car, she reluctantly confesses that she also doesn’t want anything to happen to him, expressing in her own way that she, too, likes him.
Back at Echo Canyon, a van of Rawlings’ personal cavalry arrives at the farm, informing Lawrence that the FBI is about to raid the place. They have only a 30-minute window, so it won’t be enough to extract everyone. Therefore, the best course of action is to gather everyone in the silo and wait for the coast to be clear.
Lawrence immediately issues an announcement urging everyone to take the lift to the underground lab. As his ‘flock’ gathers in the silo, Rawlings’s team gathers the farm’s armed security and, in a shocking turn of events, shoots each and every one of them. Just as this is going down, Neagley and team arrive at the farm but are surprised to see no security at the gate.
They immediately understand that something is wrong because once they are inside, they find the entire farm abandoned. They go to Lawrence’s residence and find a deeply disturbing letter, suggesting they are all committing mass suicide because of the judgement and negativity directed at them.
The gang immediately understands that this is the cover-up for Rawlings and Woodrow’s crimes. They will blow up the lab and the people in it with bombs and make it look like cult activities gone wrong. If they want to stop them, they’ll have to split up. Neagley suggests that Renee go through the vent shaft in the woods and find the bombs while Hudson and Neagley draw out the armed men.
Hudson and Neagley make their way to the barn but are immediately met with retaliation. A man shoots Neagley, and she drops down to the top of the elevator. Hudson is occupied and can’t help Neagley, but she makes it out fine and clears the way for Hudson. However, somewhere in the silo, the mercenaries have the people as hostages and reveal that it was Rawlings who gave the order to take the research and execute everyone.
The innocent are avenged
When Lawrence learns Rawlings betrayed him, he incites his people to act before the men kill them all. As expected, Lawrence fights behind the innocent and leads many to their death as the crowd charges towards the men, and they start shooting. Thankfully, Neagley arrives just in time to offer support, but the commotion causes people to flee in fear.
From the other end, Hudson arrives, and he assists people to safety. Neagley and Renee meet up and learn that the men have rigged the silo with three bombs. Neagley then comes up with an idea to jam the signal that’s used to trigger the bomb, and that will give them enough time to rescue everyone.
The people clamor to get out through the elevator, but they are cornered by the killers. As they open fire, several people are killed on the spot until Hudson takes the shooters out from behind. He helps the crowd to safety but notices Lawrence has escaped.
In the cells, Keno notices the commotion and witnesses people getting shot. One of the bullets strikes the cell’s glass next to Keno. With his wit, Keno breaks free and helps the others out. Shortly after, Renee and Neagley arrive to find empty cells, and they assume the worst. When they see inside one of the cells, they find something carved into one of the walls, "Thank you, Renee, Dion Heckathorne." This confirms he was there, and they just needed to find him.
Somewhere in the silo, Keno encounters one of the men who tortured him. He’s angry that his home is destroyed and blames Keno for it. He comes at him, but Keno is resilient, and he offers death to his torturer in the same manner he intended for him. Fortunately, Neagley and Renee find him, and the trio makes their way together towards the exit.
Along the way, they spot Lawrence trying to climb his way out of the silo, but Neagley catches up to him. He falls and breaks his leg, but Neagley isn’t forgiving. She beats him up and reminds him why he’s being left to die alone in an underground bunker that no one will ever know about. As the team gets ready to leave, they take all the research and evidence related to Tranqlara. Before they leave, Neagley unjams the signal, and the entire underground silo erupts into flames, burning every one of its sins with it.
Neagley confronts her fears
Back in Chicago, Neagley and her team drive up to Rawlings, who recognizes her instantly. He’s too arrogant to accept that he’s been cornered and reminds Neagley of the legal force she’ll have to face even if she presents all the evidence collected at Echo Canyon. Of course, Neagley always knew how this case would end; that’s why she didn’t blink twice before injecting Rawlings with Tranqlara.
They drive away, and in a few moments we see Rawlings stripping himself naked in the middle of the street, being drawn to the oncoming lights of a truck, and just like Tommy, he walks to death with open arms and sky-high.
The next day, Neagley visits Mr. and Mrs. Crane to inform them she has avenged her son and killed every last one of the people responsible for his death. As a token of appreciation, Mrs. Crane offers Neagley the same kindergarten picture she has of her and Tommy. She takes the photo but notices something else, a memory from the past—the last missing piece of her childhood.
She spots the Bernadette Bunny book that the man whom her father killed offered to her during her kindergarten days. Then it all starts to fall into place; Neagley puts together what really happened when she was a kid. She tells Tommy’s parents that she knows who gave their son this book and that she was lucky enough not to get hurt by that vile man.
It finally makes sense to her as to why Tommy was drawn to a place like Echo Canyon. He just wanted to heal from the trauma. His parents come clean, telling Neagley that they went to her father for help, who knew that if they reported the abuse, Tommy would have to live through it over and over again until the case ran.
Tommy’s parents made her father promise never to tell a soul about what happened, nor did they ever question him when Percy’s body turned up in an alley. Neagley acknowledges that he kept his promise and didn’t tell his daughter even on his deathbed.
Realizing what she had done, Neagley rushes to the hospital only to find her father’s hospital bed empty. The nurse informs her that he passed away last night; they tried to reach her, but she was unavailable. The nurse hands her a letter from her father that reads that he deeply regretted his words that hurt Neagley. He told her he couldn’t tell her what happened, but he did what was right.
The scene intercuts to Mr. Neagley and York’s funeral as the former’s voice fills the background, apologizing to his daughter and encouraging her not to cut herself off from the world. As they hand Neagley the flag, she sees Reacher standing in the distance.
Neagley thanks Reacher for stopping by and asks how he knew about her father’s death. Reacher reveals he has been calling the hospital for updates, keeping a check on her. Seeing her bruised face, Reacher assumes that she had her hands full with a case and states that she could have called him if she needed help.
Neagley admits that it crossed her mind, but she had no time to track him down. Moreover, the people behind her became her team and stepped up in a big way. She thanks Reacher for always being there for her and for accepting her the way she is. However, she isn’t going to be this way anymore and offers her hand for a shake.
Reacher looks surprised at first, but he quickly catches up on what she meant. He’s happy and almost proud to see Neagley taking the first step. He shakes her hand, feeling proud, but Neagley’s just surprised that he has soft hands. The two smile, knowing that it’s a new start, especially for Neagley.
The next thing we see is all the wrongdoers getting what they deserve, from Plemel to Murphy, who is also classified as a dirty cop, freeing Hudson of all charges. Keno and Renee talk about tracking down her brother, and she gives him a thank-you kiss for stepping up and doing the right thing.
Later, the gang gets together at the York office, where Neagley reveals that she used the money that Reacher gave her some time ago to buy the place. She informs them that the office now belongs to them, and they’ll be working the cases under her. Moreover, she also paid off Keno’s debt and showed him his new office and room.
He’ll be interning for her, and in return, he’ll be off the streets and have a home of his own. She also reveals it was Hudson’s idea to do that. Before he leaves, Hudson tells Neagley that whatever he said before going to the farm was true. He does like her, and he’s glad that she’s safe. He asks if he can kiss her, but Neagley confesses that she may have taken a step at the funeral, but she isn’t ready for something this big and serious.
Hudson doesn’t take her hesitation badly; instead, he offers to meet her tomorrow for breakfast at the diner and calls it a date. Neagley happily agrees because, despite her fears, she’s not going to hide this time. In the show’s closing scene, we see Neagley sitting in a therapist’s office, where she's asked to share what she has to say, suggesting she is finally taking a step toward a different life.
