After the premiere episode of Outer Banks season 5, the adrenaline is already pumping in the final season. The Pogues have been in three countries in search of Chandler Groff and the Blue Crown, and they're closer than ever in Dubrovnik. However, Kie fell into Groff's trap and held his body double at gunpoint. She now has the police closing in on her with almost nowhere left to run.
Outer Banks season 5 episode 2 picks up right where episode 1 left off as Kie considers her options. She begins running and bumps right into a cop with her gun drawn. Somehow, she manages to get away and back onto a gondola, but she's joined by a mystery man. With Kie out of his hair, Groff takes his meeting with Medici. She doesn't take him seriously at first, but she's quickly convinced.
Upon looking at the Blue Crown, Medici knows that they have the real thing. Meanwhile, the Pogues follow Kie on another gondola. Finch reveals himself to Kie and the strange power the crown has to bring people back from the dead. He also offers Kie a deal to help her with Groff if he gets the crown. She agrees, leading Finsh to shoot the door of the gondola to allow her to jump free.
Everybody wants the Blue Crown
Kie descends the ladder of the pole she jumped onto, safe from the cops at the other side of the gondola ride. After Groff catches wind of a disturbance outside, he snatches the crown for safe keeping at a second location for the continued authentication process. The Pogues are joined by cops on the gondola before the can get off and take another ride down. The chase continues.
For some reason, Kie still wears the hat, scarf, and coat she was first spotted in and makes no move to change her appearance while on the run. But while she hides in a shop, she watches Groff look at the mirrored window from the outside. Again, she rushes outside donning the same clothing and follows him. Finch and the Corsairs are also in pursuit of Groff.
Kie tracks Groff all the way to Medici's residence and climbs the scaffolding to get inside through a window. While the Pogues regroup, Rafe tries to relate to Pope and make him feel better, but he makes no inroads with his rebranding. Cleo gets a text from Kie with her location and they're back on foot for backup. Medici authenticated the crown, but makes a call to Finch for a reward.
She gives him the location of the crown, which completely changes the game. Groff isn't excited to learn that Medici has already lined up an immediate buyer, who she won't reveal. He knows that it's Finch, but it's too late. Finch and his team are already outside. Kie's also inside the building with eyes on Groff as Finch and his team enter for their own meeting.
The Pogues reach an unfortunate dead end
Dalia takes the Blue Crown from Groff and places it in Finch's hands. Without another word, Finch makes to leave. Medici asks for her payment, which Finch swiftly provides... one of his men shoots and kills her. One of the Corsairs takes Groff away, and before Kie gets found by another, he's called away. The Pogues arrive in time to see Finch, the Blue Crown, and Groff leaving the building.
Kie instructs her friends to follow the Blue Crown, so that's what they do, race off and leave her behind. The group sends Kie a pin of their location as they create an obstacle for the Corsairs. The crown falls out of Finch's backpack, and Sarah makes a run for it before getting apprehended. A fight ensues in the alley, but a struggle for the crown between Finch and Groff is too close to call.
John B races after Finch as the group follows Groff, but Kie winds up coming face to face with Groff instead. She clues the rest of the group in that he's heading toward the church. Up in the bell tower, Kie holds Groff at gunpoint and threatens to stab him the same way he killed JJ. We see this happen, but it's only a daydream. Kie doesn't get a chance to shoot before the bell rings.
Groff falls off the tower and onto a net below, getting away again on foot. She searches his backpack to find it empty... no crown. John B continues his motorcryle chace with Finch, who flies off a ledge and into the ocean, right into the boat that's waiting for him. The Blue Crown gets away again. The group reunites, but they have to leave before the cops catch them. Sadly, they have nowhere to run.
