True Detective is back! Here's how and when to watch episode 1 of Night Country

Calling all crime drama lovers! True Detective: Night Country, the fourth installment of the HBO favorite, premieres tonight and you're going to want to know all of the details on how to watch. The series earned critical acclaim and award wins in its first season, which starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, both of whom were nominated for Emmys for their roles. As an anthology series, each season follows different characters and different mysteries, and the quality of the show has gone up and down over the years.

This time around, True Detective has a new showrunner in Issa López, with creator Nic Pizzolatto taking a backseat as an executive producer. Night Country takes place in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska, following the investigation of a missing team of researchers led by Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis). Because this show is an HBO original, there are only two places you can watch the new episode this evening, Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024. If you have cable, all you have to do is turn on the channel HBO at 9:00 p.m. ET to start watching the episode. If you're watching via streaming, head to HBO's platform Max at 9:00 p.m. ET and the new episode should be available.

If you're streaming, you can watch the episode at any time after it's released. For linear, an encore showing of the first episode will air right after the premiere at 10:01 p.m. ET, then another time at 11:02 p.m. ET, and then one more time at 12:03 a.m. ET on Sunday night/Monday morning.
