In Silo season 3 episode 5, we had what was primarily a bottle episode. Then, things took a turn.
We learned more about the time between where we left off in season 2 and where we picked up with Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) as mayor. We also learned how it happened, the role Rob (Common) played, and that Bernard (Tim Robbins) is alive and well. Juliette got her memories back, and it's all because of an ancient Pez dispenser.
In season 3 episode 6, “Drive,” as we move to the back half of the season, we’re learning more about what comes next and more about the Pez dispenser!
Juliette’s memories
We pick up shortly where we left off in episode 5. Juliette remembers and hustles down to the lower level to provide what she remembers of Silo 17. Meanwhile, Camille (Alexandria Riley) catches up with Rob and orders him home. She no longer trusts Rob, which is probably fair, and wants to have him followed. She suspects he’s not being as helpful as it would appear.
She makes her way to the lower level, where Juliette gives herself up as a means of making time for Bernard and others to disappear. She makes it clear to Camille she has her memories and requests to visit IT. They go together, and Juliette has a conversation with the AI behind the Silo, asking it to help save the kids from Silo 17.
The AI is apprehensive, but Juliette volunteers to send others and begin taking the drugs again to wipe her memory. The deal is accepted, and she works to select those who will make the journey. Since it will also involve capping the failsafe, it has to be engineers. She turns to Shirley (Remmie Milner) and Knox (Shane McRae).
Knox doesn’t want Shirley to go, owing to the fact she’s pregnant. But Shirley determines they are the right people to get it done and persuades Knox not to reveal this to Juliette. They agree to go, but Camille doesn’t agree. Neither does the AI. So, Juliette proposes an alternate pair—Kennedy (Rick Gomez) and Kyle (Avi Nash). The AI agrees to that but later tells Camille they need a failsafe. That’s okay because she’s already spiked the water with Vitamin D+.
The hunt for bulbs
Meanwhile, Paul (Chinaza Uche) discovered last week that Orla’s murder was to cover for big problems in supply. They’re down to just two years of bulbs left, putting the future of Silo in jeopardy. That makes this hunt even more crucial, forcing him to go to extreme lengths — even betraying his wife — in order to get information.
He hits a brick wall with Knox, who is not in the mood to help. Later, Shirley works on Knox, and his approach softens. He goes to visit his father in the mines only to learn his father is dead. It’s unclear if that will help or hurt Paul’s chances of getting some help finding a black-market light bulb peddler.
A wild drive
We left off in episode 7 with Daniel (Ashley Zukerman) and Helen (Jessica Fenwick) in a rental car that was hijacked, seemingly by the very AI they’re hunting. This week, they can’t get control back, and they can’t manage to attract help. But the AI isn’t trying to kill them; it’s taking them somewhere. During the trip they have a little more time to bond, and it turns out that Helen is still in possession of the Pez dispensers — the same one Juliette will rely on in the Silo. What does it all mean? It’s unclear, but their fates are tied together.
As the episode ends, Henry (Reed Birney) shows up again with a police escort. They are making sure Daniel and Helen get to the end destination — which turns out to be a hangar for a private plane. When it opens, Senator Thurman (Laura Innes) comes out and has an offer for them. She is behind more than she previously let on, and Daniel and Helen are going for a ride.
We’re coming to a fever pitch in the past and in the present. In the present, the introduction of Vitamin D+ is a blow. It’s particularly dangerous given what Paul learned about critical supply. If he begins to forget — and everyone begins to forget —t hey’ll never find who murdered Orla and stole the bulbs, meaning the clock is ticking for the Silo.
