We’ve been on a journey in season 2 of The Terminal List. Reece (Chris Pratt) is working a new mission that offers the potential to bring him in from the cold. But is it what he really wants? Can he really adjust? And is he actually the target of this whole thing?

That seems to be the question in the latest episode, “Rats in a Maze,” as he tries to get answers about what’s happening. Let’s dive in. SPOILERS BELOW.

Finding Jules

We kick off with Grey (Jeremy Bobb) on the run. He connects with someone who seems to be running the whole mission. There is something more at play than the Al-Queda terror campaign. And Grey is the man on the inside—or was—helping to facilitate it all. But the man at the top isn’t pleased with Jules (Luke Hemsworth), who has become too reckless. It’s up to Grey to keep him in line.

So, Grey has a face-to-face meeting with Jules. It doesn’t go well. He gets his money for his part in the mission and heads on his way. He ends up partying and ends up at an apartment. He’s hoping to continue the party, but he gets a visitor.

Reece has found Jules. He bursts in, and a fight ensues. Reece gets the upper hand and puts him down. They extract Jules to get more information. But before he heads out, he gets a call from Raife (Tom Hopper). Raife has discovered that Grey put the hit on him and Katie (Constance Wu). That name rings out for Reece, who realizes they are working on the same case. He shares that he’s grabbed Jules in Greece, and Raife decides to head there to track down Grey.

Hunting Grey

Raife makes sure Katie is all set. She’s going to survive, but she’s still in danger. He has Jeff (Martin Sensmeier) running the guard, and he agrees to get Katie somewhere safe when she’s released from the hospital. With Katie in good hands, Raife turns his attention back to Grey and getting answers.

He heads to Greece, and there he connects with his old friend Tal Varon (Shiraz Tzarfati). They are tracking leads to find Grey. And Reece has sent some help too, Ox (Keith Jardine) and Eli (Edwin Hodge), to give him assistance and some CIA cover. Together they cast a wide net, and it isn’t long before they spot him. He’s heading for a port, so they head out to meet him.

But the team is too late. Grey has come and gone and taken a shipment of weapons with him. It’s a mission of some secrecy, so he leaves no witnesses. Upon arriving and finding another dead body, Ox and Eli decide it’s time to clue in the bosses on Grey and whatever shadow mission he’s running.

Questioning Jules

Meanwhile, Reece and the rest of the team, including Freddy (Gabriel Luna) and Mo Farooq (Dar Salim), have set up a black site for Jules. It’s off the grid and actually a site he helped make. It’s a secluded place where they can use extra special tactics to get the truth. After a few days of questioning using some stressful techniques, they don’t get much of an answer.

So, Reece turns to a last resort. It’s a powerful compound that brings Jules to the point of truth-telling. He spills that whatever the final plan is has to do with Odessa. That’s a site that Adrenov (Costa Ronin) has mentioned and a place where the peace talks are set to take place. So, Reece and Freddy head out to try and head off what’s coming.

Mo thinks there is more to it. He remains and sets Jules up on a dangerous torture method that he had suggested the Al-Qaeda cell use on him. It works to put the fear in Jules. He doesn’t know everything, but he knows that both Grey and the man pulling the strings—a Russian gangster known as The Colonel—are both targeting Reece specifically. Mo gets his revenge on Jules, who is truly broken at the end, before calling to warn Reece.

This was a bit of a darker episode, as it was more about looking for details and putting the pieces in place. I’ve long suspected that Adrenov would figure into whatever was happening. The question is whether he’s simply a target or if he’s involved in the violent plot. With two episodes left, we’re on the cusp of getting those answers.

The Terminal List is now streaming on Prime Video.
