With two parts done and two to go in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, I’m not ready to say goodbye to the Russos.
As an original fan, these characters deserved more time. At least the finale event hasn’t been boring. It’s been wild, dangerous, and heartfelt in all the best ways. It has certainly kept me on the edge of my seat.
Trip to Wizacrataz
While the Wizacrataz guards drag Silas Evilini away, Billie reminds Justin about all the reasons Silas deserves to be back in prison. He may not be guilty for going to the Russos on his own, but he did try to steal Billie’s magic, which resulted in his imprisonment before.
After getting out of the necklace, Justin finds out Billie snuck them into Wizacrataz without a plan. Once again she proves she’s Alex’s daughter, and she’s about to find out if she shares similarities with her dad as well. But before they find him, they need to search the prison without being seen and locate Damien’s cell number.
After Billie falls on her face in the guard suite, she agrees with Justin that he should wear the suit while she hides in the cart. Even though they almost get caught, the guard points them towards the records room. The door shocks them, making it a tad harder to get into the room. Justin barely moves out of the way when Billie pushes the cart into the door. It sails into the hole in the records room floor.
While Justin climbs up the ladder to the P’s, she sees a guard with keys. She follows the keys and doesn’t hear Justin’s warning about the wacky spell scrambler. Without the warning, her spell ends with her stuck to the guy’s back and the keys out of reach. Another spell goes wrong, and the guard falls, but she grabs the keys. Unfortunately for her, the other guards hear the fall and come running.
Justin finally reaches the P’s, locates Damien’s file, and then drops it when the alarm goes off. It alerts him that the guards have caught Bille, “a teen witch with a smart mouth and bad attitude.” It’s up to Justin to get her out of this mess so they can find Damien. Justin pretends to be a guard, takes the keys from her, and drags her away as she screams to be thrown out instead of into the pit. It takes a minute for Billie to realize it’s Justin as he reminds her Russos always have each other’s backs.
A spell goes wrong
Gia finds out that Winter knew before her that Justin and Alex snuck into Wizcartaz. She’s only a little upset, even though she is yelling when she swears she isn’t. Milo brings the locator machine with the message into the kitchen, but not before telling on himself about removing the batteries from all the smoke detectors in the liar. She leaves Roman and Winter with a warning not to mess with the locator machine while she has Milo put batteries back in the smoke detectors. But being the nosy smart kids they are, Winter and Roman start figuring out how to make the machine a two-way communicator.
They do two things at once, causing the machine to blow and the message to disappear. The smoke detectors go off, so they run the machine out of the kitchen and hopefully where Gia doesn’t see it. They can’t hide it for long when Gia notices the machine is missing. After dropping his full name, Roman blurts out the truth in a fake tearful way. The scolding is interrupted when Milo calls them into the kitchen when the appliances start glowing.
When Roman did a spell at the same time Winter fixed the machine, it sent the spark into the outlets. Milo shutting the fridge caused the spark to hop into the sink and then the microwave. Alex communicates with them from beyond the rift with the microwave screen. Gia promises they’ll do everything they can to bring her back while Roman searches for answers in the liar.
Alex tells everyone to be quiet while Winter explains her theory. Despite the distance, the emotional bond between Justin and Alex could allow them to cast a binding spell to bring them together. With the pressure of never seeing Alex again, she promises to walk Roman through the spell. He thought he finished the spell, but more comes through the screen. As they worry it’s okay, the connection is lost to Alex.
Locating Damien Penwulf
As they are about to locate cell 140, Billie gets nervous about seeing her dad for the first time since she was five. She worries he won’t like her. Justin reminds her that Damien is finally getting his little girl back, and that’s everything. But their heartfelt moment causes them to run into the guards again (including the one he stole the uniform from). Justin takes on the guards alone as he sends Billie off to find her dad, promising to meet her there soon.
Counting on his magic to scramble, Justin ends up with giant hands while fighting the guards. He’s doing well for a while until the guards get the upper hand. They throw him in a cell with Silas Evilini.
Billie turns the key and walks into her dad’s cell. He instantly knows it’s her, and they hug after all these years. Despite needing to get out quickly, Damien takes in this moment with his daughter. He lets the guards walk by his cell while the lockdown starts before he grabs Billie’s hand and runs down the hall.
As they figure out how to distract the guards, Billie tells her dad about her life. He hangs up a trap, showing his coolness. Finally, they find Justin as Silas starts reading his letter about all the pain the Russos have caused. Before they can get him out of the cell, he disappears due to Roman's spell and lands in the unknown.
