True Detective Creator Nic Pizzolatto is Already Dreaming of Season 3

In the recent cover story at The Hollywood Reporter, we were given a valuable look into his life and thoughts on criticism. What we weren’t given, however, is a concrete look at what we can expect in the future. Although Pizzolatto dodged questions about season two, he added a slight bit of info of what he would like season 3 to look like, specifically citing The Big Lebowski and Raymond Chandler.

These are light references and aren’t indicative of an overall picture, but at least the germ of an idea is there. Pizzolatto recently denied a plagiarism claim, which perhaps makes these references stand out a little bit more. Besides casting rumors that haven’t seen official comment, we haven’t seen much in the way of season two news.

More from HBO

This has given the claims plenty of room to breathe, so it would be nice to escape the drama and drive into what the future of the series has in store. If Pizzolatto is already beginning to think of the third season — which could prove to be the series’ last — we may not have to wait so long next time around. Wishful thinking, perhaps.

It’s important to remember that HBO has publicly backed Pizzolatto, and that Rust Cohle is inspired by a myriad of other writers and philosophies. It’s easy to get sidetracked by this sort of drama, especially when there’s not much else going on.

It’s much more worth your time to take Pizzolatto’s comments literally, and imagine season three involving a few bowlers and the adventures they find themselves in.
