Will True Detective Season Two Take Inspiration From True Crimes?
A true crime case that creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto may have taken inspiration from for True Detective’s first season has recently been making the rounds and it brings up a few questions. One of which is whether or not Pizzolatto will take further inspiration from real world crimes in order to fill the worlds he’s created. We don’t know enough about the plot to make that call for sure, but even if we did we didn’t learn about the case that inspired season one until just recently.
A crime that happened ten years ago, to boot.

It’s likely that Pizzolatto will find inspiration from true crimes, whether outright or in part. Originally Pizzolatto said that he was taking inspiration from the U.S shipping industry’s past, but in a later interview said that was no longer the case. The larger question is not “if” but rather “how much.” After all, the crime that was reported by Vice bears great resemblance to the series.
Did the fact that season one may have been based on a past crime alter your perception of it? And if it did, how would you feel if season two did the same? Gather real world inspiration is accepted and practically expected in crime fiction, so this won’t be as large an issue as those pesky plagiarism claims.
