Can True Detective Make January Premiere?
As far as we all know, True Detective has yet to begin filming. It’s possible that the final female lead has been cast in secret, but it’s unlikely. For some it has felt that all the pieces were finally falling into place, but when taking a critical eye to the situation it becomes apparent that things haven’t moved forward all that much after all. Taking this all into account it’s starting to look sketchy that True Detective can realistically make a January premiere.
What we’ve had is a lot of new info regarding cast announcements, and hell, even director announcements. That’s all well and good, but it doesn’t signal the start of actual production. It’s currently mid-October, and True Detective is set to premiere in January 2015. That’s a few short months away. Unless filming hits a fast track, it’s going to be very tough to make that date.

Season two was originally rumored to premiere in the summer, which would about a year and a half turn-around after season one. That’s a long break between seasons to be sure, and when it came out that they were shooting for a January release instead we were all relieved. There’s no telling what harm a year and a half long break would do to a fledgling series, even if it is on HBO.
We’re still rooting for that January premiere, but it’s time to start thinking realistically. It’s possible that some setup and filming has already begun, but that would be a deep secret in HBO’s pocket. That would be no easy feat in today’s world, where set pics leak constantly. Hopefully season two will pick up steam soon, otherwise it’s going to be a bit of wait.
Still better than summer, however.
