True Detective Season 2: Music Matters
The music of the True Detective’s first season was a powerful force. The topic of how important T. Bone Burnett’s score was to True Detective has been a well-tred topic. It’s surprising just how little, but also how much we know about season two. For example, we know three of the four leads, we know the general plot outline and setting, and we even know that Just Lin will be taking the reins for the first two episodes. That’s not something to scoff at when it comes to details about a season that could be a long way off.

But the details that we don’t know are becoming the most vexing: who’s that fourth lead? When will it air? Will other famous directors join in? And, finally, what’s going to happen with the music?
First season director Cary Fukunaga is taking the producer’s chair for the second season, which might signal Burnett’s future actions. It would be interesting to see Burnett step back into a more advisory, Music Supervisor role and let something else take over.
That issue aside, we also have the opening credit theme to look forward to. There’s no reason to think that The Handsome Family will make a return, but whoever does is going to need to become just as much a part of the show and fandom as “Far From Any Road” has. It’s no small task, and you can seriously bet that HBO is not taking the decision lightly.
