Woody Harrelson pokes fun at Matthew McConaughey’s Lincoln ads in a tribute to director James Burrows.

There have been a few celebrity Matthew McConaughey impressions making the rounds recently. Although we can’t explain the oddly new obsession with McConaughey’s particular cadence, it is more than welcome. Kevin Spacey hasn’t yet thrown his hat in the ring, but we just got the next best thing: Woody Harrelson.

More from HBO

Last night, NBC aired Must See TV, a tribute to the director, James Burrows. Burrows directed practically all of the most famous NBC series, including Friends, Cheers, and Will & Grace. There was a short, sweet clip during the tribute involving various former and current NBC stars talking to each other on the phone about attending the tribute.

When it swings around to Woody Harrelson, who starred in Cheers early in his career, we see him auditioning for Matthew McConaughey’s new gig as Lincoln spokesman. You can watch the entire clip below:

Woody Harrelson doesn’t do a Matthew McConaughey impression, but that’s alright. This feels more genuine than the others, and it’s nice to see that the Lincoln commercials have made such a splash. Matthew McConaughey may have never appeared in an NBC sitcom, but that’s not important.

Harrelson just can’t pull off that philosophical edge that car commercials, for some reason, need to have. Luckily we have the real thing instead. Now that Woody Harrelson has joined the Matthew McConaugehy game, the whole thing should just fold or go even bigger.

We have not yet reached peak McConaughey. There is room for more, and we should be reaching toward the stars.
