Rachel McAdams’ Next Movie Will be Doctor Strange

Rachel McAdams will be going straight from Spotlight to Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

It’s been a bit of a wild time for Rachel McAdams. She was the only actor from True Detective’s second season to be nominated for anything, and she has been riding high on the critically acclaimed Spotlight. Even though Rachel McAdams never ended up winning for her role in Spotlight, the film itself won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

For those wondering what McAdams has in the can next, wonder no more — it’s Doctor Strange. McAdams was cast in the role several months ago, but not much has come out since then. Doctor Strange hasn’t even had a teaser yet, but it is still slated to release this year. 2016 will see at least three major superhero movie releases: Batman vs. Superman, Captain America: Civil War, and Doctor Strange.

It will be interesting to see Rachel McAdams take on a superhero flick directly after Spotlight, and hopefully it will be a testament to her versatility. It would be a bit of a waste if she’s just relegated to superpower-less love interest, much like Natalie Portman’s character in the Thor movies.

Even though superhero movies make a serious killing at the box office right now and tend to get fairly strong reviews, most award shows refuse to nominate them. Even if Doctor Strange ends up being excellent — the current track record certainly suggests that it will be — don’t expect to see it, or Rachel McAdams, up for any major awards next year.

It’s safe to say that Doctor Strange will be just as loved as Spotlight, but for different reasons and likely from different demographics.
