Michelle Monaghan to star in film about the Boston Marathon Bombing.

We’re close to the premiere of Michele Monaghan’s The Path on Hulu, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look forward to her next project as well. Monaghan isn’t looking to stick around in the television sphere for long, though that could change if The Path gets picked up for multiple seasons.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Michelle Monaghan has joined Patriots Day, a new film about the Boston Marathon bombings that occurred back in 2013. Monaghan will be joining an all-star cast that includes John Goodman and Mark Wahlberg. Monaghan will play Carol Saunders, Mark Wahlberg’s wife.

It would be nice to see Michelle Monaghan stand on her on and not just be someone’s wife. It’s a role she played in True Detective and will continue to play in both The Path and now Patriot’s Day. We haven’t seen The Path yet, so hopefully her role will be a big larger than it appears. A statement was released on the casting, referring to Monaghan as a “remarkable actress who knows the people of this city and understands their courage and strength.”

Patriot’s Day will be directed by Peter Berg, the man behind Lone Survivor and Battleship. Yes, that Battleship.

Berg also has a longstanding relationship with Taylor Kitsch and will help finance his directorial debut, Pieces. Berg is mostly known for helming action movies, so it’s tough to say how this one is going to go.

Next: Cary Fukunaga also thinks that partnering with Netflix hurt his Oscar chances.

Patriot’s Day is due out later this year. There’s probably a while to go until we see the first trailer since the cast has only just been solidified.
