Game of Thrones “The Spoils of War” breaks ratings record despite being leaked

Game of Thrones episode 704, “The Spoils of War,” is now the highest rated episode in the show’s history.

If you were wondering how the recent cyber attacks against HBO and the episode leak by one of its affiliates — Star India — would negatively affect episode 704, “The Spoils of War,” we’ve got some news for you: It didn’t.

Zap2it is reporting that Game of Thrones season 7, episode 4, “The Spoils of War” raked in a record setting 10.167 million viewers, garnering a 4.6 rating from ages 18-49. That astronomical number tops the season 7 premiere, “Dragonstone,” which set the record at 10.1 million viewers.

Taking into consideration that “The Spoils of War” was leaked a few days ahead of its airing, and the fact that a hacker group is claiming HBO’s time at the top of the heap is over, the fact that the episode set an all-new viewing record is absolutely amazing. Perhaps it’s time for the hackers to consider alternate forms of employment.

What does Game of Thrones have in store for anxious fans? Well, episode 705, “Eastwatch” is up next, and it will be the start of the season’s final three episodes.

“Eastwatch” should pick up right where “The Spoils of War” left off, with Daenerys Targaryen telling the defeated Lannister army to bend the knee or die. Jon Snow will receive some form of a message from his brother Bran, and then devise a plan regarding the Night King’s army and its approach to the Night’s Watch castle, Eastwatch.
