HBO hacked: Game of Thrones episode leaked online

HBO has been made the victim of a cyber attack as hackers claim to have episodes of Game of Thrones and is prepared to leak online.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that HBO has suffered a “major cyber attack” today and the hackers have released episodes of other HBO shows online, as well as the script for an upcoming episode of Game of Thrones.

A spokesperson for HBO explained it further in a statement:

"HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information. We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold."

According to EW, the hackers have allegedly stolen1.5 terabytes of data from HBO and have already posted next week’s episode of Ballers and Room 104 online. And, the hackers claim to have the script for Game of Thrones episode 704, “The Spoils of War,” with more to come soon, if HBO doesn’t give into their demands.

Since the first four episodes of Game of Thrones season 5 was leaked early, HBO has stopped sending out advanced copies for the press to review.

An email from the anonymous hackers was sent to reporters:

"Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling."

Somehow, we doubt these hackers can bring HBO to its knees, but if they do have episode scripts and even entire finished episodes, it could ruin an already shortened season 7 for many fans. Let’s hope HBO nips this in the bud very quickly.
