Before Game of Thrones took the throne, HBO lived on shows like The SopranosEntourage and Deadwood.

Entourage got a theatrical movie with the original cast and the Sopranos world is coming to theaters with a prequel called The Many Saints of Newark. Hell, even Game of Thrones already has spinoffs in the works and it doesn’t even end until 2019.

But what about Deadwood?

Deadline reports that HBO president Casey Bloys confirmed that a Deadwood movie is coming and they want to start shooting it this fall. However, the logistics of that happening will make it difficult.

According to Timothy Olyphant in an interview with Rich Eisen, the problems come in getting the original cast back together again to actually shoot the Deadwood movie.

"“It’s very hard to get people together for a barbecue that lasts an afternoon, let alone to get everyone together for a production that lasts a month or two.”"

The cast has all moved on. Olyphant is starring in the Netflix original series Santa Clarita Diet, which saw its second season hit today. Ian McShane, who played saloon owner Al Swearengen, stars in American Gods as Wednesday/Odin. Brad Dourif is still busy voicing Chucky in the Child’s Play movies.

Deadwood only lasted for three seasons on HBO from 2004-2006 and was critically acclaimed and widely praised, but then abruptly ending its run with little notice. Fans have wanted more since its end but it is now going on 12 years.

According to Bloys, there are negotiations underway with the cast and it seems like he is confident they can work something out for a Deadwood movie. The availability is the only stumbling block at this time as creator David Milch has already written the script for the movie.
