As HBO finally premiered the highly anticipated second season of Westworld last night, they also gave the audience a taste of what’s to come next from HBO.

Just before the airing of Westworld, HBO released a teaser trailer for their new miniseries Sharp Objects.

Sharp Objects is based on the novel of the same name by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.  The series will star Amy Adams as Camille Preaker, a Chicago reporter recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital, sent to her old hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri to cover a couple of gruesome homicides.

As Camille investigates the murders, she also confronts traumatizing events from her past.

Looking at the trailer, there certainly some similarities to be seen with Gone Girl.

There’s the suburban Midwest setting or more specifically Missouri, ominous missing posters, a gruesome crime and the lives of a town’s residents turned upside down.

The trailer though seems to focus less on the murders and more on the fragile psyche of Camille.  There’s a couple of brief flashbacks to a younger Camille (played by It’s Sophia Lillis) as well as several shots of her holding a razor blade and some grisly scars along her arms to allude to her history of self-harm.

The show’s cast will also include Patricia Clarkson, Elizabeth Perkins, Chris Messina and Matt Craven and all the episodes will be directed by Jean-Marc Vallée of Big Little Lies.
