The series follows US Air Force pilot Yossarian during World War II while he tries desperately to finish his term of service while his superiors keep increasing the requirements for completion of that service. He cannot claim insanity to leave because of Catch-22, stating that any attempt to avoid service automatically proves sanity.
Tessa Ferrer will play Nurse Duckett, who forms an attachment to Yossarian after overcoming her initial dislike for him. She is the first female role to be announced for the series. Ferrer is perhaps best known for her regular role as Dr. Leah Murphy on Grey’s Anatomy, but currently appears as Cora Babineau on Mr. Mercedes and appeared in the film Insidious: The Last Key. Coincidentally, Ferrer comes from an old Hollywood family with connections to Pat and Debby Boone, Rosemary Clooney and Jose Ferrer, which also makes her George Clooney’s second cousin.
Jay Paulson will play Chaplain Tappman, an exceedingly kind, gentle, and sensitive man who is often preoccupied with the safety of his wife and children. He is tormented throughout the novel by his manipulative and atheist assistant Corporal Whitcomb. Paulson is best known for his role as Adam Whitman on Mad Men but has made appearances on shows like Grimm, Major Crimes, Castle, and has had recurring roles on Happy Town and October Road. He will be appearing in the TNT miniseries One Day She’ll Darken, directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Chris Pine.
