13 Takeaways from 13 Reasons Why: “The Drunk Slut”
Each day, you will get a recap of one episode from the second season of 13 Reasons Why.
Here’s our recap of the third episode from the second season of 13 Reasons Why.
1. Clay nearly gets run over by a Range Rover.
Now someone’s out to get Clay. As he rides home from the hospital to see Skye, a black Range Rover (like Bryce’s) nearly runs him off the road. His bike is toast and he’s all banged up. When he shows up at home at 5 a.m., with his parents about to pounce, he comes clean about everything that’s been going on with him – in typical Clay-freak-out fashion.

2. Jessica testifies at the trial.
It’s clear Jessica is deeply troubled by what happened to her. Alex and Clay try to convince Jess to reveal Bryce raping her, even though it’s not part of the trial. Instead, the defense attorney paints Hannah as a jealous bitch and that’s why their friendship ended in 13 Reasons Why. Jess insists it happened because of the Hot-or-Not list.
3. Jess realizes Hannah was a good friend to her.
We see flashbacks of Hannah’s interactions with Alex and Jess. They all kissed each other the night Jess and Alex became a thing. Jess understands now that Hannah wasn’t jealous, just hurt that she would be left out of their friend group. We also see Hannah try to approach Jess about the events of the party, but Jess dismisses her as being jealous, again. It’s a lot to live with for one person, the guilt, rape, and being threatened.
4. Could Jess be next?
Someone posted pictures of Jess drunk at a dance in her first-period class, calling her a drunk slut. She brings the photos to the trial and states that this is what it’s like at Liberty. The harassment is too much; they did it to Hannah, now they’re doing it to her.
5. Skye dumps Clay.
Clay visits Skye in the hospital (she’s OK!) and after he tells her he loves her, she promptly breaks up with him. She needs to work on herself and get her cutting under control, and she has to do it without him. Skye also knows he’s not fulling in love with her because he still loves Hannah. Skye ends up being moved, which we can only assume is to a treatment facility. Clay calls her incessantly for the rest of the episode, and she never answers.
6. Maybe Zach can’t be trusted.
Zach seemed a little too close to Bryce for comfort. Alex, Jess, and Clay suspect maybe he has something to do with all of the threatening notes. I don’t know if he’s capable of something like that, but it’s always the person you least expect, right?
7. Maybe Chloe can’t be trusted either.
Bryce’s new boo is just way too friendly to Jess. It’s the look she gave after Jess walked away from her that leads me to believe she’s not so innocent. They say keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. And I think she sees Jess as a big threat.
8. Tyler and Cyrus get closer.
We meet Cyrus’ father and sister, who Tyler is crushing on. It seems like he finally found a friend, but is this kid dangerous? What were they building in his basement? And how are we three episodes in and still no acknowledgment of the ammo Tyler’s hiding in his room?
9. Olivia finds her voice.
Although she typically ignores the press before and after court, after Jess’ testimony, she decides to make a statement. It’s a powerful one. She says she knows the way the defense is portraying her Hannah is not her daughter. She also reveals to Jess that she listened to the tapes and reached out to her. Mrs. Baker isn’t playing around anymore.
10. Sparks fly between Tony and his trainer.
Tony reveals he got dumped, and when his trainer assumes it was a girl who dumped him, the trainer sounds almost delighted to be wrong. Could it be a new love connection in 13 Reasons Why?
11. Bryce will testify.
Getting the notice to testify has thrown our resident rapist. He’s definitely nervous. I still don’t think he’s behind all of the threats because it’s too obvious. I can’t wait to see what he lies about on the stand.

12. Justin is homeless.
Clay decides him and Tony need to find Justin because he is the only other witness, besides Hannah and Jess, that knows about Bryce’s rape. Based on a postcard he sends Jess, they know he’s close. They find him homeless and begging for change in Chinatown. Clay takes him in; but, now Justin’s a crack addict.
