HBO orders a Game of Thrones prequel pilot
A Game of Thrones prequel is coming!
HBO has been planning for a future without Game of Thrones ever since they announced the popular series would end in 2019. While The Verge reports a possible five spinoffs are in the works, HBO officially gave the green light to one of those ideas.
The first Game of Thrones spinoff will likely be a prequel and will be written by George R. R. Martin (Great! More delays for the rest of the books.) and Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass).

To try to figure out when exactly this prequel could take place, I’m going to get a bit nerdy on you.
HBO said this new series will take place thousands of years before what’s happening on Game of Thrones now.
Thanks to Bran Stark, we know that before people inhabited Westeros, there were only the Children of the Forest. These creepy little beings now live beyond the wall.
However, they were already in Westeros when the First Men showed up 12,000 years before Robert’s Rebellion. The Starks are actually descendants of the First Men.
Two thousand years later came the Age of Heroes, which was a pact between the Children of the Forest and the First Men. (Maybe that’s why the Children of the Forest help Bran find the Three-Eyed Raven!)
About 6,000 years before the Rebellion, the Andals invaded Westeros from Essos. They are now the dominant race in Westeros — think Targaryens and Lannisters.
And since “thousands” eliminates Robert’s Rebellion and Aegon’s Conquest, this prequel could very well be about the Andals’ invasion of Westeros.

Of course, it could also be an origin story of the Night King and his army of the dead. But do these guys even talk? Would the series be in complete silence?
We’ll have plenty of time to speculate since the last season of Game of Thrones doesn’t come back until 2019.
