Martin also gave his thoughts on a title for the new Game of Thrones spinoff which could give a clue of the plot.

Earlier this week, HBO announced they would pilot a Game of Thrones spinoff set thousands of years before King Robert’s Rebellion. George R. R. Martin will write the script.

Many fans of the fantasy series, even more so novel purists probably heard this and thought, “Oh great – something else to distract Martin from finishing ‘The Winds of Winter.’”

More from Game of Thrones

But according to Deadline, Martin’s recent blog post confirms that you need not worry. He said that he is continuing to work on Winds of Winter and it remains his “top priority”.  In fact, he says that if he weren’t working so hard on finishing up his next book, he would write the scripts for the other pilot ideas himself.

Another revelation revealed by Martin is that one of the five original spinoff ideas was shelved. But three are still in development.

"“Everything I am told indicates that we could film at least one more pilot, and maybe more than one, in the years to come.”"

Like I wrote yesterday, the history of the Game of Thrones universe starts with the Children of Men over 12,000 years before the current show’s timeline. So, the possibilities of what these plots could be endless.

Martin also offered some more insight about the spinoff pilot that HBO announced earlier this week. He said that they hadn’t found a director, location, cast, or title yet. However, if Martin had his way, he would name the new series “The Long Night”. He thinks this title “says it all. But he doesn’t think they would end up with that title since HBO will want to capitalize on the Game of Thrones brand.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on life after Game of Thrones. What do you think is the plot of the new pilot? Let us know!
