HBO’s latest comedy, The Righteous Gemstones, adds another star from Vice Principals.

For anyone who watched Vice Principals, it’s easy to see why HBO and Danny McBride would want to continue working with that cast. Edi Patterson was a surprising delight throughout the two seasons. TVLine reports she’ll be joining an already impressive cast with both John Goodman and McBride set to star in The Righteous Gemstones.

More from HBO

Patterson will be playing McBride’s sister, Judy Gemstone, a member of the family who resents her parents. As a woman, Judy isn’t allowed to share the spotlight with her brothers, including standing on stage with them Sunday mornings.

McBride’s character, Jesse, is the heir to the televangelist throne despite his family’s name being synonymous with greed. His father, played by John Goodman, is a major power player in the ministry business. Thanks to him, the Gemstones not only ministries around the world but weekly television programs for people to tune into.

The Righteous Gemstones will be posing a Vice Principals reunion behind the scenes too. Alongside his usual collaborators, McBride will serve as an executive producer with Jody Hill and David Gordon Green. He’s also set to both write and direct the pilot episode for HBO.

Next: HBO to feature series Lovecraft Country produced by Jordan Peele

Edi Patterson will undoubtedly be a great addition to the cast considering she’s a comedic force. She’s taken on a few roles since her time with Vice Principals which should make her recognizable. Patterson has lent her voice to We Bare Bears and had recurring arcs in both Black-ish and The Last O.G.
