Sweetbitter gets the green light for a second season

Though it fell in the lower half of Starz’ show catalog in ratings, Sweetbitter will be back for another season in 2019.

Six episodes just weren’t enough for Sweetbitter, the 30-minute drama series based on the book of the same name by Stephanie Danler.

According to Deadline, President and CEO Starz Chris Albrecht announced that the freshman series would be back for a second helping.

Sweetbitter follows Tess, a young girl who moved to New York without a plan and began working in an upscale restaurant. It stars Ella Purnell, Tom Sturridge, Caitlin FitzGerald, Evan Jonigkeit, Eden Epstein, Jasmine Mathews, Daniyar, and Paul Sparks.

Albrecht said, “The immersion of the audience into the world in and around the restaurant will deepen as the series looks further into the complexities of Tess’ awakening and the lives of her new friends and colleagues in the second season.”

Some critics liked the show, and some didn’t. But, Sweetbitter showed some solid ratings.

The show averaged 0.06 live and same-day ratings in the 18-49 age demographic. This equals out to be around 164,000 viewers per episode. It doesn’t count for all of those who DVR’d it or watched it OnDemand, like me. I hardly ever watch a show live and I know I’m not alone!

Another piece of news is that Season 2 will have ten episodes, which increases from Season 1’s six.

I think ten is a better number. At just six episodes, the season finale definitely left me wanting more.
