The highly anticipated graphic novel adaptation is slated to hit the streaming service sometime during the 2018/2019 season. While the Umbrella Academy won’t have an official panel at SDCC, just getting a glimpse of the show will be enough for many viewers.

Netflix has cast a group of impressive actors to take on the roles of: The Kraken (David Castañeda), The Rumor (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Number Five (Aiden Gallagher), Spaceboy (Tom Hopper), The Séance (Robert Sheehan), The White Violin (Ellen Page), and The Horror who is yet to be cast.

While all of the characters possess different abilities, Page’s White Violin is the only one to be entirely human. Her real name, Vanya Hargreeves, views herself as the “black sheep” of the family because of this and Umbrella Academy will follow her journey of self-discovery. Despite her outsider status, the Hargreeves family will work together to investigate their father’s mysterious death.
Netflix announced early on that the first season will follow the original graphic novel storyline so readers should be familiar with many of the arcs. This doesn’t come as a surprise considering the original creator, Gerard Way, is set to serve as an executive producer. Jeremy Slater, who scripted 2015’s Fantastic Four and FOX’s The Exorcist series, will be writing the pilot for Netflix. Meanwhile, Steve Blackman, the executive producer from Legion, Altered Carbon, and Fargo, has been tapped as showrunner.
