Good news out of the Television Critics Association summer press tour for fans of Amazon’s original series Sneaky Pete!

The series, which stars Giovanni Ribisi, has been renewed for a third season, according to Deadline. While the deal to bring Sneaky Pete back was completed about a month ago, the renewal was only announced today.

Production will start this upcoming week in Los Angeles. A third season of the show hinged on a change in shooting location — from New York to California.

In March, Amazon announced the series would be moving Sneaky Pete‘s production to the Golden State after it was conditionally approved for $9.2 million of tax credits. The news made a third season highly likely.

The show centers around Giovanni Ribisi’s character Marius, a con man who gets out of prison and learns the gangster he once robbed wants revenge. Hunted by the merciless criminal, Marius assumes the identity of his former cellmate Pete and lies low by taking refuge with the man’s estranged family.

In addition to Ribisi, Emmy winner Margo Martindale stars in the show along with Marin Ireland, Shane McRae, Libe Barer, and Peter Gerety.

The series was created by Bryan Cranston and David Shore and is executive produced by Cranston, Graham Yost, James Degus, Michael Dinner, and Fred Golan.

The show has been a hit for Amazon so it’s understandable that the service would want the series to continue into a third season. With the additional California tax credits, a third season makes even more financial sense for Amazon Studios.
