9-1-1 is back and hotter than ever as the team faces new challenges, romance, and some hot new characters (Ryan Guzman–enough said).

9-1-1 is back for season 2 and we cannot contain our enthusiasm. The Ryan Murphy series quickly found success earlier this year when it premiered and the first part of the season 2 two-night premiere continued to carry on the thrills and excitement.

After Connie Britton’s exist last season, many wondered how the series would hold up in her absence. Not only did they bring in iconic fan-favorite celebrity Jennifer Love Hewitt, but they’ve brought in a new addition to the fire department team in the form of Ryan Guzman.

And if you thought Oliver Stark as Buck was pleasing to the eyes, then prepare yourself for the hotness that is Ryan Guzman’s character, Eddie. Eddie is the newest addition to the team and while Buck isn’t exactly thrilled to have another hottie on the team, he does eventually form a bond with Eddie whose experience on the field gives him an advantage over everyone else.

Part one of the 9-1-1 season 2 premiere reminded us why we fell in love with the show so quickly, because in what other show would a YouTube star get stuck with a cement block over their head while inside of a microwave?

Along with that, there are multiple rescue situations that thrust back into the intensity of the series including a tour bus driving off a cliff through the roof of someone’s house, a pressure cooker explosion that causes a bottle to insert itself into someone’s neck, and someone’s arm blowing off and landing into a swimming pool.

The new season brings with it someone to replace Connie Britton, but not as anyone’s love interest (at least, not yet). When Buck returns home to find a suitcase, he presumes it’s Abby returning from her travels, but really it’s sister Maddie (played by Hewitt) paying him a visit. After 3 years, Maddie just shows up and as we come to learn, she is on the run from her husband who seems rather frightening based on his threatening phone call to her.

Maddie decides to leave L.A. behind, but Buck convinces her to stay and gets her a job as a..wait for it…9-1-1 dispatcher. The men of the LAFD (namely Buck, Eddie, and Chimney) all submit pictures to be a month on the yearly calendar and spoiler alert, Chimney ends up winning and snags a spot as Mr. April. Well, to be fair Hen submitted a picture of Chimney rescuing a child and sent it in for him.

Buck and Eddie handle a crazy situation in which a live round of ammo ends up in a guy’s leg. Time and the grenade’s logistics are working against them and while Eddie successfully removes the ammo before they’re blown to smithereens, the ambulance ends up blowing up after the fact. But hey, everyone survived so there’s that.

And we can’t forget to mention Athena and Bobby who have been dating for four months and seem to be the most adorable couple. However, when Bobby tries to get them to go public, Athena hesitates out of embarrassment. But don’t worry, after an inspirational pep talk from her husband, she decides she has to embrace the happiness and the two share their relationship with the team.

And given that the season 2 premiere is a two-night event, things ended on a crazy note as an earthquake began to rumble across the streets of L.A., causing destruction and mayhem. Can you believe the season is just beginning?
