Diego Luna’s character from Rogue: One: A Star Wars Story, Cassian Andor, is set to get his own live-action show on Disney+.

Star Wars fans have plenty to be excited about. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has announced a second prequel show is in development for Disney’s streaming service, Disney+. After Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian was announced earlier this year, the new show will focus on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character, Cassian Andor. The best news yet – Diego Luna is set to reprise his role for the show.

Rogue One was a surprise hit when it was released in 2016 as the first of the Star Wars Anthology films. While subsequent film Solo: A Star Wars Story was unable to capitalise on its predecessor’s success, Rogue One gave audiences a landscape of characters from diverse cultural backgrounds who captured fans’ imaginations. Luna’s Cassian Andor was a particular highlight, portraying a deep sense of loyalty to the Rebel Alliance despite it conflicting with his own moral core.

Diego Luna has made it apparent that he is a huge fan of Star Wars and it is no wonder he has jumped at the chance to rejoin the galaxy far, far away. It remains to be seen if we’ll get to see Andor’s sassy partner-in-crime, the reconfigured Imperial droid K-2SO, who was mo-capped by Alan Tudyk. Luna was quoted as saying:

"Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply."

The Disney+ show is set to be a ‘rousing spy thriller’, which is a great fit for the character. I, honestly, would love to see all the Rogue One characters again, and if live-action mini-series are the way to go, I’m all aboard.

No release date has been set yet, but Disney is doing a great job of capitalising on their film successes and generating excitement for their streaming platform. Along with the two original Star Wars shows, Disney will also be debuting mini series starring Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, The Winter Solder and Falcon, Loki, and Scarlet Witch.
