4. Watch with friends: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix)

Riverdale is one of the hottest TV shows airing right now, so chances are you and your friends will want to check out Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Created by the same person, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, there are definitely similarities between both. However, Sabrina is on Netflix which means this series is quite a bit darker. Mad Men‘s breakout star, Kiernan Shipka, takes on the titular role as a half-witch/half-mortal girl who must decide which path she’ll walk in life. This is a much different take than Melissa Joan Hart’s good-natured comedy since we’ll see both Satan and Madame Satan try to secure the sixteen-year old’s soul. Luckily, Sabrina has her loyal boyfriend, Harvey (Ross Lynch), and her aunts by her side throughout the whole process. Unfortunately, her cat Salem doesn’t speak but the show is still enjoyable nonetheless.

The Christmas special airs December 14, 2018 on Netflix. Season 2 premieres April 5, 2019.

3. Watch with family: Marvel’s Runaways (Hulu)

Unlike a lot of other superhero series out there, Runaways focuses on both the kids and their parents. Based on a popular comic, Hulu’s first Marvel show ended up being extremely well liked by audiences of all ages. In the source material, the parents are simply evil for the sake of being evil. However, the TV show changed that to add a bit more complexity and personality to the adults. Any parents watching will be able to relate to some of the trials of parenthood and the desire to protect their child. Meanwhile, kids will empathize with the feelings of not being heard and betrayal when blind trust is broken.

Season 2 premieres on December 21, 2018.
