2. Watch with friends: Doctor Who (BBC America)
Doctor Who has become like Game of Thrones, you need to have a basic knowledge of the TV series to keep up with pop culture. While you could all the way back to 1964 and start the show from the beginning, we’re going to suggest you with the 2005 revival. You’ll still have eleven seasons to binge watch with friends, and if you’re dedicated enough you could get through a big chunk of it through the holiday break. Currently, Jodie Whittaker stars as the first female Doctor during the eleventh season. While there won’t be a Christmas special, as per usual, Doctor Who will be doing a New Year’s episode to treat the fans. Unfortunately, the next season won’t be here for at least another year so you’ll have plenty of time to catch up.
The New Year special airs on January 1, 2019. Season 12 is not expected until 2020.

1. Watch with family: Timeless (NBC)
Timeless is one of those TV shows that people will watch in a few years and wonder why NBC ever decided to let it go. There are very few series out there which are fun, heartbreaking, and educational. Abigail Spencer, Malcolm Barrett, and Matt Lanter lead the show as the “Time Team”, a trio of people forced to save history from a villainous group called Rittenhouse. While the show sounds very sci-fi esque, Timeless spends more time trying to accurately portray different events in history. It visits a lot of notable moments, such as Abraham Lincoln’s assassination and the Civil War as well as some more obscure ones as well. One of the standout episodes from Season 2 included a trip back to early Nascar, which was not only incredibly informative but also interesting. As a feel-good show, almost every family will be able to enjoy this series as well as the upcoming TV movie.
The TV movie/two-part finale airs December 20, 2018.
