The 76th Golden Globes were held Sunday night in Beverly Hills and offered a few surprises.

As of the morning of the Golden Globes Sunday, 12 out of 18 experts on the popular awards show races site Gold Derby chose Matthew Rhys (The Americans) as the clear winner of the Best Actor in a Drama Golden Globe.

Three chose Richard Madden (Bodyguard) as the winner.

Well, those three were right because the Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, and Jim Parsons presented Madden with the award.

A shocked and humbled Madden took to the stage and gave an adorable speech where he shouted out to his parents who flew all the way from Scotland to be there with him.

Watch his speech.

It’s impressive how far Madden has come from his days as Robb Stark on Game of Thrones.

To refresh your memory, Robb Stark was the “King of the North” until he, his wife, unborn child, mother, dire wolf, and just about all of his men were brutally murdered at the infamous Red Wedding. It’s one the single-most shocking moments on the show (if you didn’t read the books), and since Game of Throne is the biggest series of all time, Madden goes down in history because of it.

He made some appearances on other series like Klondike and Medici, but Bodyguard is the first notable television series that gained him more notoriety. And his Golden Globe nomination helped generate more buzz.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is known for giving awards to the “hot new” show or actor of the moment, and it seems like Madden is having quite a moment.

Congratulations Richard Madden – the King of the Globes!
