This is Us will end after season 6
Everyone’s favorite show to cry to will most likely end after six seasons, says This Is Us creators.
All great shows have an end game – and This is Us is no different.
According to People, the showrunners of This is Us, Dan Fogelman and Isaac Aptaker see the show lasting another three seasons. Aptaker said,
"“From day one, Dan came in with his master plan for the big picture stuff of the show and said, ‘I think this is where we end up. I think this is what I know. Let’s figure out the rest together.’ So, all of the writers and the actors really know everything. We’re all pretty good at keeping secrets by now, it’s been three years, but it’s a total open book for everyone who works on the show, so there are no secrets from each other.”"
It makes complete sense.

This show jumps around overtime in the past and in the future, so to go in without a plan would be unwise. There’s nothing that an audience hates more than being dragged along only to find out it all takes place in a snow globe. (I’m looking at you St. Elsewhere.)
This is Us fans are loyal and diehard, and they deserve a fantastic ending. And that’s what Aptaker and Fogelman plan to give us. He said,
"“I would hope that when we reach our ending, people think it’s a really satisfying end place, that makes sense, and it feels like they’ve watched something that is a complete piece of work because that’s really how we’re trying to plan it.”"
He assures that the grand finale will be “elegant” and “satisfying.” He doesn’t want the show to wear out its welcome. He added,
"“We’ve had this end in mind for a long time, so we’re able to plan for it, and try to make it feel like it’s a whole, as opposed to a series that’s going to go endlessly.”"
I, for one, appreciate it. I still watch Grey’s Anatomy, and there have been times I am like, “enough already!” But I won’t give up on it. And I wouldn’t give up on This is Us, so I’m glad they won’t test me!
This is Us airs on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on NBC.
