Good Omens: Benedict Cumberbatch to join the cast as Satan
By Ariba Bhuvad
Benedict Cumberbatch is literally playing with the Devil in Amazon’s Good Omens.
Good Omens is turning out to have one epic cast with David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm, and Frances McDormand already a part of it. During the Good Omens TCA panel, author Neil Gaiman revealed that Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch would be the final addition to the cast. Can we just take a moment to celebrate and be super excited?
Given that the series already has an all-star cast, the addition of Cumberbatch is the perfect way to round it out. Our dear Sherlock/Grinch/Patrick Melrose will be playing the voice of Satan in the series. I know, you’re already thinking about how that will sound but considering Cumberbatch once lent his voice to The Hobbit’s Smaug the dragon, he will do just fine.
According to Gaiman, Satan will be a giant animation in Good Omens and Cumberbatch appeared to be the perfect fit. It will certainly make for an interesting story and adding Cumberbatch to the mix will certainly pay off. Apart from the cast listed above, Cumberbatch joins Nick Offerman, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Richardson, Adria Arjona, Michael McKean, Anna Maxwell Martin, and Mireille Enos, per Deadline.
If you’re curious about the plot of Good Omens and have not read the book, here is what the Amazon series will look like. It is the modern day and the Apocalypse is nigh, and Final Judgment is about to take place. Everything and everyone, good and evil, is prepping for it until a demon and an angel get involved–and the Antichrist goes missing.
Good Omens will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on May 31st in over 200 countries and is set to air sometime this year in the U.K. on BBC Two. So, rest assured, everyone will get a chance, at some point, to catch this horror/fantasy/comedy/drama all wrapped into one.
