Game of Thrones’ Natalie Dormer to star in new Penny Dreadful series
If you’re a fan of Margaery Tyrell from Game of Thrones, then you’re going to love her in her next TV venture.
Natalie Dormer looks to have found a new role to sink her teeth into.
The former Game of Thrones star land a lead role on a new drama series, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. The new series will serve as a “spiritual descendant,” which I’m guessing is a fancy phrase for a sequel. It will take place in L.A. in 1938.

Dormer will star as Magda, a supernatural demon who can shapeshift into any person at any time. She is described to be a “dangerous enemy and an invaluable ally.” So, in other words, don’t mess with her.
This will be a stark (see what I did there?) change to her character Margaery on Game of Thrones. She was intelligent, ambitious, yet kind. And she also met an untimely death at the end of Season 6, so I’m glad she landed in another popular franchise.
Daniel Zovatto (Lady Bird) will play Detective Tiago Vega, who, according to Variety, is “embroiled in a story that reflects the history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism.”
The new series will also star Jessica Garza (The Purge) and Jonathan Nieves (New Amsterdam).
For Dormer, this will be her second appearance on a Showtime series. She previously starred on The Tudors as Anne Boleyn. She’s also a movie star in her own right, having appeared in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2 and Captain America.
No date has been set for a premiere of Penny Dreadful, but it should air sometime this year on Showtime.
