With Jessica Jones heading into its final season, fans want to know whether David Tennant will return.

One of the highlights from the first season of Jessica Jones was the introduction of Kilgrave, her tormentor and main antagonist. Tennant’s take on the character was immediately well-received, with many venturing as far as to say Kilgrave is one of the best villains ever seen in the MCU. Unfortunately, EW revealed the actor wouldn’t be reprising the infamous role in this upcoming season.

This will come as a surprise for many hopeful fans who wanted to see him at least one more time in the final episodes. However, just because Tennant won’t be returning to film any more scenes, it seems impossible the presence of Kilgrave won’t be felt. He is the one who made Jessica suffer the most, and his memory will most likely haunt her for many more years to come.

Not to mention, Melissa Rosenberg responded to a tweet back in February which hinted that Kilgrave will be addressed in the upcoming episodes.

At the SXSW festival, Tennant did comment on the recent cancellation news regarding Jessica Jones. While Marvel fans have been upset about the end of the Defenders era, he had a much more positive take on it.

"“I don’t really regard it as a cancellation so much as something having the life that it should have. Three seasons of that story is great. Rather than thinking of it as something that was canceled, I think of it as something that had three seasons that will live in the memory.”"

He does have a point, especially because the show creator, Melissa Rosenberg, was expected to exit the series after this season either way. It’s better to have three seasons of a complete story than try to extend it just for the sake of doing so.
